Manatee Numbers Rebounding in Florida!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Palm Realty BK3273458

Here in Florida, Manatees are loved by so many. We follow them when they are in trouble. Last year when 19 manatees were trapped in a storm drain, the story went nationwide.

On colder days when these beloved mammals come into shallow canals off the Intracoastal Waterway, locals crowd around the banks to see them and of course their precious babies.

We mourn when one dies or when we see one of these gentle giants with a huge gash on their back knowing that someone wasn't paying attention and the manatee paid forPalm Realty another human's ignorance with an ugly prop strike.

Therefore, recent news of the manatees success in their population growth has come as spectacular news to manatee lovers worldwide!

In 1991, there were only 1,267 manatees in Palm Realtythe entire state of Florida. This weekend, the numbers reported are drastically improved. Today there is a reported 6,300 manatees in Florida, an increase of over 500%! The total number of manatees worldwide is over 13,000 which makes my heart sing!

This development has resulted in a proposal to take manatees off the Endangered Species" list and move it to "Threatened" under the Endangered Species Act.

If you are looking for your dream home on Florida's sunny Space Coast so that you too can be close to our beloved manatees, let me put my 25 years experience as a full time real estate broker to work for you!

Kerry, we love the manatees in Naples and always look out for them when we are in their habitat.  We like them so much that some people have manatee designed mailboxes in front of their homes.  So happy to hear they are rebounding!

Great news Kerry L Klun . I've enjoyed following the Manatees ever since I was a boy and read that sailors used to mistake them for mermaids.

Kerry - This is good news, as I always worry when animals, or mammals become endangered. These manatee look so harmless and friendly. Glad to hear their population is rebounding so well.

Bob, that's impressive following them all the way from Minot! Don't know what mermaids look like in North Dakota, but I doubt they would be mistaken for manatees here, LOL!
