Almost like camping -- ugggg

Life without a refrigerator

Our refrigerator, of seven years, decided to die without much warning. In the afternoon the freezer side didn't seem very cold, so I quickly moved everything to the big freezer in the garage. Couple hours later, the refrigerator side also decided to get warmer. After Cary and the boys did some testing, they decided it was the compressor and not worth having it fixed.

With a few quick measurements, Cary and I were out the door to find a replacement. AJ and Brad stayed behind to move what was left into the old dorm refrigerator, a wine cooler that semi works (we inherited), and a Coleman cooler. (Couldn't thank them enough for taking care of this -- did I mention we have two AWESOME boys?!)

Cary and I soon found out that evening that there is NOTHING in stock down here! At least nothing that would fit the soon to be gaping hole in the kitchen. So, the next morning we were out the door early to see if maybe someone had something that would work for us ASAP. Nope, didn't happen. We ended up at the first place we looked at the night before and placed our order--it will take 11 days to get the dang thing here. That means 11 days of camping in the kitchen.

I had no idea how many times I open the refrigerator door out of boredom!! On a bright note, I might lose some weight!!! Here's to the bright side!!

Kimberly - Sorry that your refrigerator went out. It's frustrating when things like that fail and you just can't go out and replace them. Perhaps you will have to enjoy a few nights out on the town at a good restaurant. Here's hoping you make the best of a bad situation.

Kim - At least you have power in the house.  It is a good time to clean out all of the old food.

Way to look on the bright side, Kim.  As long as you've got coolers and a backup freezer, that 11 days should fly by!  Time to explore lots of cooking with pantry items ; )

Ugg, the refrigerator is something we rely on and take for granted, it is never fun when it goes out.  Sounds like you have a couple of awesome boys though!

Kim Johnson Your post reminds me of our total kitchen remodel a few years back.  Fortunately I had time to plan & we had big freezer & small dorm frig in basement.  Two evening camp type meals heated in microwave, third night dinner out with take home for next night.

Somehow you will survive, maybe a little thinner, but very grateful when new frig is delivered in 11 days. Good luck.
