Your home is on the market and potential buyers are going to start coming into your home and you want to make the best impression possible. In and around the Atlanta area, the time is coming when more and more homes are going to be on the market and you need yours to stand out so we can get it SOLD.
The family room or living room as you might call it, is the main room in the house where the family hangs out, watches TV, plays games and spends time together. It is also the one room in the house that might have the most “stuff”. It is time to start thinking of what the buyers want. They want to look at your home as a clean slate and what they can do.
Make sure to put away all of the toys, game boards and pet paraphernalia. After utilizing the storage bins, you might realize that you can have a yard sale and make some extra money to buy some new items for when you move into your new home.
Take down all the personalized items and most of the picture frames that are on every shelf of the bookcase or around the room. I know that you love to look at the kids and how they have grown throughout the years, but you want your home SOLD, don’t you? Your job is to make your home look inviting to potential buyers.
Once all the picture frames are taken down, give the bookshelf a good dusting. While you are at it, clean and sanitize the whole room. Not only does it probably need it, but it will make your home smell clean and fresh. If your sofa and loveseat are not looking so hot, you might want to get out the carpet cleaner or hire a company to come and give them a good cleaning.
Make sure to clean the windows both inside and out. If you have window screens, take them down, get some cleaner and a scrub brush and give them a good cleaning. This will do wonders for the family room when you open the shutters or curtains and let the bright light in.
Speaking of light, make sure that you let as much light in as possible. And if you have a nice smelling candle, light it so it releases the great aroma into your home.
Last but not least, if you have any bright, accent walls, you will want to paint them a neutral color. You do not want to deter the potential buyer because of that burnt red wall on the far side of the room. Get some paint and match it to the rest of the room.
