You have enough on your mind, with moving day fast approaching. So, the last thing on your mind is probably talking to your kids about the big move. But change can be even more difficult for children. They might be sad about leaving friends behind, anxious about going to a new school, and nervous about the idea of leaving the comfort of their own bedroom. But about.com says there are things you can do to make the move a more positive experience.

Involve Your Children
If your kids are older, they’ll understand your reasons for moving so you can involve them from the beginning. With younger children, you might want to wait and involve them once the decision is made. It might be as simple as having them pack a few things so they feel apart of the move.
Let Kids Help in the Home Hunt
As long as your kids are old enough, bring them along when you’re looking for a new home. If you involve them at this stage, they might accept the move better. For younger kids, show them the house after you’ve decided on one. If children know what their new home looks like and all the exciting things about the house, it might make them less scared. You might even want to let them pick out their own bedroom.
Let Kids Design Their Bedroom
Involving your kids in the decorating process of their new bedroom could be fun for them. Show them paint colors and some options on a theme for their new bedroom. Suggest items to take with them from their old bedroom that will also work in the new surroundings.
Spend Time in the New Neighborhood
Whether it’s a new city or not, take your children to the new neighborhood and show them around. Show them nearby parks, stores, or other places they might be interested in. This lets kids imagine what it’ll be like once you move.
Tour the New School
Starting a new school is probably going to create the most stress for your child once you move. It’s tough saying goodbye to friends and teachers. But if you show your kids around the new school, where their classes will be, etc., it might make it a little easier on them. See if the school offers a guided tour and ask the school if there’s a classmate who can introduce your child to the rest of the class.
