What's Your Blogging Routine?

Okay ... so you've gotten into the habit of writing a few BLOGS per week ... maybe you even write one daily, but what gets you "In The ZONE" to create that routine BLOG? 

  • What inspires you?
  • Do you have a schedule you follow?
  • What time of day is best for you? 
  • Where do you sit? 
  • What do you drink while you're writing?  
  • Where do you go for information? 

Probably for most people they have no idea the time and effort that is actually put into creating a BLOG. I know I didn't before I began a little over a year and a half ago!  

For me ... my day starts out by scouring the web for news  - local events,  national news,  real estate related or just news in general.


When I decide on a topic it's time to begin writing but "writing the content" is not everything!  It's important that you find the perfect clip-art or picture to go along with it. In fact that single thing alone can be more important than anything!  If it's not "attention getting" chances are good that they will never even click on your BLOG.   

Along with the title, the picture is what captures peoples attention to want to delve deeper into what that article is all about!  

So, next time remember to put just as much time into creating the "Title" and picking the most captivating picture to go along with your BLOG content and you will hit a home run every time!

I am working on time blocking for my blogs. I do not cold call expireds or FSBO's so this is my main lead gen time. I typically write in the morning however have been known to get an idea and write late at night. However, if it is between 12 and 5, forget about it.

Kent, it takes time to come up with the idea, the title, the content, the photos or clip-art, etc. I have found, on occasion, the simple post are the ones that are most popular. I can labor, and struggle, and go over the material repeatedly and it isn't nearly as well received as the ones I write on the fly.

First off I do not blog nearly as much as I should.  I am getting better about doing it, but basically I took most of December off.  I am trying to do 3 a week; starting next week.  Topics there are no shortage off.  Market reports alone on the different cities and communities could fill my blogging schedule.  Sometimes I go off on a topic that catches my interest.  A question and response to a client can often be turned into a post.  Some challenge I am facing with a client or prospect.  General topics, of buying, selling, investing, and so on . . . .. .

Hi Kent...I tend to blog, read and comment much more in the evenings (late usually) as I'm more of a night person. I get up at the last minute so mornings do not work for me except I keep thinking that I would love to change things around and blog in the mornings.

I average three posts a week....

Wednesdays I do a Wordless post with a picture of one or more of my grandchildren.

Monday and Friday I try to have a post about a local event, something in the news, or something home staging/real estate related.

I'm always on the lookout for a topic. Sometimes ideas come to me when I wake up in the morning.  I do not have a designated time for writing. I do it when I have something to write about.

The writing is not easy for me. It's a long process and I often struggle with the title and illustration choice.  It's very satisfying though when a post is done!

I wish I could write up notes...and have someone else write the blog!  I have so many ideas but not enough time and don't feel I am that good of  a writer. Still I persevere!

Great topic Kent Temple ! I try to write my articles during "off hours."   This includes first thing in the morning or late evenings.  Certainly there are some weeks where I have to take time during peak hours.  As everyone knows in real estate there are rarely concrete routines

Hi Kent, last year I made it a priority to learn how to write better for the web and get myself to develop a daily writing habit( that took some work). This year I discovered a way to organize and schedule my posts with the use of a Content Calendar. Thansk for sharing.

Reading/commenting is usually very late at night, daily or close to it.

Writing requires more heavy lifting.  Text is part of it, yes, but essentially, writing  a short story (to include titles & photos which is the marketing angle).  Short stories are more difficult than long stories, so it's not easy to be concise and keep the reader's attention all the way.

The inspiration can come at all times, from all places, though often from what I read or hear about, or some experience I am going through.  When I've realized "oh, this is a blog idea", it gets set as a reminder on my phone.  I could blog daily for the next 6 months if I wanted to publish all my ideas.

Most days, I find myself in my home office in the late evening engaging in Active Rain related reading and writing. I always have a glass of water on my desk.  Topics can be found everywhere. I have a stack of blogging materials and ideas on a shelf in my office.  If only a day was 48 hours long!

I NEED a routine! I time block lead gen time every morning M-F, and that includes blogging and FB posts. However, real life gets in the way and I am lucky to get here 3 days a week.

I've written a blog about blogging ideas before, but typically when I'm in a CE class, i'll get an idea for a blog and I write "B" next to it; "N" is for Newsletter, etc.  those are then e-mailed to me from my phone, etc.  Then when it's blog writting time, I have a list.  I may be in my home office or at my laptop when travelling.  either way, the ideas come at different times than the actual blogs.  Other times, I may see a photo opportunity and snap a photo, e-mail it to myself to save to my "AR" file!  Taking the time to create a topic doesn't always happen at the same time as a given time to write one!
