La Crosse Winter Rec Fest 2016

La Crosse Winter Rec Fest

The La Crosse Winter Rec Fest starts Friday January 15th.  This community event was started by the La Crosse Parks and Rec department as a way to encourage people to get out, have fun and get exercise during the winter, instead of just hibernating.

The Rec Fest Medallion hunt started yesterday with clues that are given out every day until the medallion that was hidden in the city somewhere is found.

Many competitions and activities are scheduled, from the traditional winter activities of snowshoeing, curling contests, ice fishing competitions, ice skating exhibitions, hockey jamborees to non winter sports of outdoor volleyball, broom ball, kickball and even a softball tournament.  I hope they don't use a white ball!

The organizers won't make everyone freeze all the time.  There is even a euchre and sheepshead tournament. For those of you who have never heard of sheepshead, it is a card game that seems to be unique to Wisconsin, as I have never heard of it in other places.

Concluding weekend includes fireworks, and a torchlight hike in Forest Hills Golf Course.

If you are looking for an activity to get outside and enjoy during the winter, check out the La Crosse Winter Rec Fest.  For more information, go to http://laxwinterrecfest.com/

Safe travel.  Supposed to be small possiblity of freezing rain here, then a huge possibility of never getting over zero for a couple of days.  Sure you don't want to pick up step son and continue down to Florida?

LaCrosse is a great recreational state and you're the Queen of Real Estate in LaCrosse!

I had to laugh at your comment to William Feela because when my daughter lived in LaCrosse while being a student at Viterbo, I remember so vividly the day I left home. The weather was very pleasant in Lake Villa, IL. By the time I got half way to LaCrosse the weather changed to snow, freezing rain, more snow, and cold. I was so cold I spent a fortune on a sweatshirt with a picture of an Indian just because it was the warmest thing I could find at the gas station!

I am hunkered down. The high temp  today was 9 degrees and the high tomorrow is minus 4.  I'm staying at home and looking at all your pictures, Roy Kelley
