The Inn at Playa Del Rey CA is A Charming Getaway at the Beach in LA
We spent last night at one of our favorite inns in SoCal for the weekend - The Inn at Playa Del Rey in Playa Del Rey CA, just west of Culver City at the beach.
The Inn at Playa del Rey is a very special place. We’ve spent several nights there, celebrating special occasions - check out the view from our room below!
Reminiscent of a Cape Cod Massachusetts inn, with wonderful views of the Ballona Wetlands, and with Playa Del Rey beach homes and the boats moored at Marina Del Rey in the distance, the Inn at Playa Del Rey is a step back in time.

It’s where relaxation immediately sets in and it’s like being a guest in a private home.
There is no doubt you are immersed in a small Southern California beach community, with all the sights, sounds and smells (the ocean, and lots of restaurants) one would expect. The beach itself is just a few blocks away, as is the 26-mile South Beach bicycle path, but with the back of the Inn facing the wetlands you may not want to even leave other than to have dinner.
This romantic hideaway is in stark contrast to Los Angeles just minutes away. On a clear day you can see LA skyscrapers, the Hollywood Hills, and mountains surrounding the LA basin and up the coast past Malibu.
While presumably the intent is to escape it when visiting here, city life is not far away from the Inn at Playa del Rey if you want it, especially for visitors from out of town.
What makes the Inn at Playa Del Rey so successful? Without a doubt it’s the charm, views, the amenities (fireplaces, courtyards, free parking, free bikes, books and movies, free wifi, a wonderful living room with fireplace and comfy counches to relax in and enjoy more views), a fabulous breakfast in an attractive dining room with views and fireplace, wine and hors d’oeuvres in the evening, and friendly helpful staff who treat you like their personal guest at home.
The Inn at Playa Del Rey is on Culver Boulevard, which has some traffic, so you definitely want the rooms facing north over the wetland, and preferably on the top (3rd) floor if your budget permits). Each of the 21 guest rooms and suites are unique in size, style and décor.
The Inn at Playa Del Rey was truly a wonderful escape, again, and we will definitely be back. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area!
