How Do You Respond to a Non-Real Estate Blog?

Introduction to Blogging

I know this is a Real Estate platform and we exchange ideas and information across the the country and Canada, but what is the idea of this blogging platform? This is just my opinion, but I remember when I joined Active Rain and wasn't sure what a blog was really all about.  New people join Active Rain every day, not knowing what to do, or what to say.

For the most part, everyone here on Active Rain can relate to the dilemma of what to blog about.  I was told, when I started, to blog about anything, as long as it follows the guidelines of Active Rain.  A newbie may not have the skills to write an outstanding blog, but if they blog at all, it is a start.  It took me months, before I was comfortable in blogging anything other than a market report.

Blogging Material

If a new member or an experienced member chooses a subject to blog about, that is something other than Real Estate Related, why should it matter?  I have seen blogs about local businesses, recipes, vacations, family pets, favorite hobbies and the list goes on.  I think that is great!  Who wants to read about homes for sale and market reports from everyone. The diverse subject matter helps to make Active Rain and interesting place to be.  Who knows!  I may find my future favorite recipe here on a Real Estate blogging platform.  That's what makes this a great place.

How Do You Respond

Remember, Active Rain is a place where we can go to learn, play and enjoy the family we have here. Other platforms I have seen are non friendly and people seem to get a kick, by putting others down and trying to start arguments.  I don't visit that atmosphere.  So, if you read a blog on Active Rain, remember, encourage those members who have trouble writing about Real Estate everyday. As long as the members stay within the subject rules, they are participating and being included in our family.

If you can't be encouraging in your response, don't respond!

At least they are participating.  There are many members that have not participated in years.

Larry said it well. The guidelines need a little brushing up because they say certain posts will not be awarded points. I don't have a problem with all of them getting points as long as it is not copyrighted material.

If its NOT offensive and of interest to me, I comment. Alot of my blogs seem to not have much to do with real estate. Mostly about customer service or lack of it.
