Elisha Hunt
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy the post for the day.
Elisha Hunt was born in Pawtuxet, Rhode Island back in 1842 to Elisha (no I didn’t get that wrong) and Eliza. He attended Potter and Hammond’s Business Academy in Providence. In 1858 his father died when the ship he was on was sunk by a hurricane. When the Civil War broke out he served with the 2nd, Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry. He advanced from corporal to lieutenant colonel in command of the regiment.
After the war he became a successful businessman. He was appointed as collector of the U.S. internal revenue of Rhode Island in 1875. But can you tell me what Elisha Hunt Rhodes was most noted for? Well let me ask you a question first? Do you remember the PBS-TV documentary series The Civil War by filmmaker Ken Burns? Well Ken’s film was due in a large part of the wartime journal and letters published by a great-grandson Robert H. Rhodes. The journal and letters were first published in 1985
