How to Decorate a Man Cave

Interior decorating seems to be somewhat easy, or at least easier, if you’re a woman.  But with guys, there seems to be a few more limitations.  Some of that might have to do with the fact that many men could care less about curtains, pictures, and furniture.  Posters, mismatched accessories, and anything comfortable such as an oversized couch usually does just fine.  But some of the hesitation could have to do with pulling off a look that is masculine, not feminine.  Well, I found some fun tips for decorating a Man Cave in about.com

Masculine Colors

Guys, you might want to stay away from the yellows and pinks.  Instead, try darker colors, or warmer neutral shades like black and white.  But don’t be afraid to throw in a splash of color.  If you don’t feel comfortable with this, find warm, metallic accessories with gold or brass.

Geometric Patterns

When creating your own Man Cave, consider adding some geometric patterns.  You can’t go wrong with this design if you’re going for a masculine look.  Masculine design is all about clean lines and sharp edges and can be weaved throughout your home.  Start with a rug, in maybe in a beige and black, and then consider incorporating the geometric pattern into furniture and accessories.

Mix Up Textures

Typically, masculine areas are a mix of textures such as stone or unfinished wood.  Brick walls are great because they add both color and texture.  Combine all of these textures along with some metallic finishes, and you’ll have a kitchen or living room looking very stylish and very manly!

Accessorize

You might think because you’re a guy, you have limited options when it comes to accessories.  But that’s not necessarily so, depending on your taste.  You can add stoneware, statues, or even pottery to spruce up a room, or even vintage hardcover bindings.  Throw pillows also work well for adding color and texture.

Art

Art, to many of you, I’m sure means posters of sports teams, etc.  But if you pick out some paintings with a splash of color, they can add a nice, finishing touch to a space and make it look more masculine at the same time.  You can even go with black and white photography.

Leather

I’m sure this will excite you the most out of all the decorating tips.  Yes, it’s ok to have a leather couch for your Man Cave.  You can even have more than one leather furnishing to add to your masculine look.  And keep in mind, leather comes in a variety of colors so mix it up a little!
