Are Your Email Marketing Efforts Paying Off?

Are Your Email Marketing Efforts Paying Off?What kind of results are you getting with your email marketing? Is your list furthering your business? Or, have you given up on it completely? Before your throw in the towel, ask yourself the following:

  • Is my email targeted to the right demographic?
  • What is my click-through rate?
  • Am I getting results?

Though often times overlooked, email can be an extremely effective marketing method. If not done right, though, you'll end up frustrated and give up on the whole idea.

Here's some tips for getting great results on your email marketing efforts:

  • Target Your List - An unfocused list is a waste of time. Having Realtors® in your Buyers list does nothing to increase sales. Sending prospecting emails to someone you've already done business with is a waste of time as well. Each group requires individual nurturing. Separate people in groups that will be "touched" with appropriate information. Take a good hard look at your contacts and see how they can be separated into targeted groups.
  • Email From - Check with your CRM program's set-up to make sure your email's "from" field has your name in it - not your email address. Go a step further and and add "Your XYZ Realtor". If people don't have a clear idea of who sent the email, they may not open it.
  • Make Your Subject Line Pop - People will open emails with a subject line that speaks to them. Let them know what the email is about in a way that makes them want to open it.
  • Check Your Links - You can have a great subject line, a wonderful call to action and the perfect message. However, broken links will void any confidence your recipient has for you. Test every link in your email and signature.
  • Short and to the Point - Don't drag out a message. We've all seen the emails that go on and on and on, causing you to scroll until your fingers bleed. Those salesy emails are nothing but a bore and will turn people away from your message quickly. Get to your point quickly without too much text.
  • Send Yourself a Proof - Send yourself a test email. Go through it to make sure the formatting looks professional and every link works.
  • Check Your Analytics - Most CRM programs will give you statistics for every email blast you send; number of people sent, how many people opened your email, number of unsubscribes, etc. Look at which emails get the most opens and clicks and which ones don't. Create future emails with those statistics in mind.

Email marketing is an essential tool in your marketing arsenal. Target your market, create interesting subject lines and content, check your links and analytics. These tactics will help you get fantastic results for your effort.

Thanks, Troy Erickson .  Our attention spans get smaller and smaller.  Shorter emails make sense.  Have a good day.

Great advice Pamela. It's so important to send the right message to each prospect - and to each past client or member of your sphere of influence.

I was once acquainted with an agent who sent ten emails in one day, each to a different type of client. One was for newleyweds; one was for move-up buyers; one was for seniors moving to a nursing home. You get the idea.

When I wrote and told him that was not a good idea I lost a potential client - guess I insulted him! Oh well, if he was that goofy he wouldn't have made a good client.

That's funny, Marte Cliff.  What do they say about the definition of insanity?

Bottom line: Am I getting the results I had hoped for?  If not, what do I need to do differently?

Sam Shueh - Drilling your contact list down into a buyer's group looking for the property you've just listed is important.  People are less likely to unsubscribe when you're sending them information they actually want to see.

No mine was not paying off so I stopped it. I am now thinking that perhaps I did need to separate into different groups. I may have to take another look at email marketing.

Sussie Sutton - Staying in touch with my contacts has produced a lot of new and returning clientele.  I hope you'll take another look.

Another great post!  Over the years I've tried numerous email programs - and I've not seen the response I was hoping for.  I'm currently in the process of working my list now and starting an entirely new campaign with Happy Grasshopper.  Looking forward to getting some great results!

Diana Dahlberg - I attended a webinar with Happy Grasshopper.  It sounds like a great program.  Good luck.  I'd be interested in your results.

I would consider mine "somewhat" successful.  Last year we closed several deals from the email campaign.  Is there such thing as successful enough?  I doubt it!

Jenna Dixon - Closing several deals from your email campaign sounds pretty darn successful to me.  Keep up the good work!

Pamela Cendejas It's a very good idea to 'measure' the results.

There are a few paid and free plug-ins in gmail that can help us track the emails. (And tracking is good otherwise, too.)

Praful Thakkar - I personally don't use Gmail so I'm not familiar with their tracking assets.  Lots of other people use Gmail so your comments are very helpful to them.  Thank you.

Gita Bantwal - What program are you currently using?  The ones I'm familiar with all have a tracking report telling you how many emails went out, who opened them, what links they clicked on, etc.

is my e-newsletter and my market reports really marketing?  I only send email to people who have asked for those items. I hate nothing worse than getting unsolicited emails.

Good question, Tammy Lankford .  To your point...that's what makes segmenting your contact list so powerful.

The short answer, no. The long answer, I believe it will using these tips and others. I view email as an extension of my brand. If I am delivering extraordinary service, my emails need to be the same!

Eren Millam - I totally agree with you.  My biggest email marketing reward comes mostly in the form of getting clients "down the road".  The consistent emails keep me and my brand in front of a lot of eyes.  When they're ready to make a move, so am I.
