While preparing your Atlanta area home for sale, staging your rooms should take center stage for your priorities. The kitchen should be the focus of your hard work. The kitchen is the heart and soul of a home and the most important room to set the stage and attract buyers to your home. There are some key things to do which will help turn a potential buyer into one ready to make you an offer.
The first step to stage your kitchen is a thorough cleaning. Prepare for cleaning by first removing all excess clutter. This includes all magnets and photos on the refrigerator. Clear out your cupboards of old canned goods and limit the number of dishes as well. Cleaning should include a floor to ceiling scrubbing. Grease will have no doubt built up on the walls and windows.
You will want to devote some time to cleaning every surface in your kitchen. When I say surface, I mean every surface, from the floor boards, to the counters, cupboards and appliances. Use the self-cleaning function on your oven but be sure to hand clean any grease or food spills you can first, to help limit the smoke or smell. Clean your refrigerator inside and out. If you have a dishwasher, keep up on the dishes, the less in there on showing days the better.
Once your kitchen is sparkling clean, if you have painted it anything but a neutral color, it is time for a new paint job. This is crucial to staging your kitchen. Buyers want to be able to imagine their own personality within each room, not someone else’s. This idea extends to any window treatments as well. Be sure you have clean, neutral blinds or curtains hanging, replace them if needed.
You want to retain as much clear counter space as well. All small appliances should be kept put away. This includes blenders, coffee makers, mixers and toasters. Ideally, your counter space should be clear except for a small display that will add an attractive splash of color. This can be a cook book on a stand or flowers and some new designer towels for example.
