The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Capitol Records is pleading with Los Angeles City Hall to block the construction of a 16 story condo and retail building next door to it's famous record shaped tower.  The iconic tower has stood since 1956 and been home to artists ranging from The Beatles and The Beach Boys to Coldplay and Kylie Minogue.  The claim is that the high rise and it's 3 level underground parking garage would cause damage to the studio's unique underground echo chambers.

The developer has denied that the project would harm the reverberation equipment and has pledged to try to limit noise and vibration during construction, but Capitol "is extremely concerned about the viability of us being able to continue to run Capitol Studios in the face of the admittedly significant adverse impacts that will be caused by construction," said Maureen B. Schultz, a senior vice president at the recording company.
