I've been working on a new website for a specialized venture (experiment) and I utilized a template site. The developer has some prior experience in the chosen field, so I used one of his many semi-developed templates. As I filled in the blanks and added verbage to the site, I was deeply immersed in the details. Storyboard sheets all over my desk and across the floor as I labored to complete my project. As I was finishing up early one morning (this made me think of doing "all-nighters" in college), I came up on a page that set me back on my heels. The developer had put a tab on the Home Page titled "How Does It Work?". Referring in this case to the sales process to be initiated by the seller.
As I thought about "How Does It Work?" for awhile, I realized that I had to boil out all of the details I had focused upon and get down to a consise process description, easily understood by my readers. In that early morning twilight I suddenly came up with an insight that this is a question that all of us in the real estate business need to ask ourselves frequently.
"OK, you want me to sell your REO.......How does it Work?".
Awhile Back, Asking that question would have shortened my learning process considerably, but I was too bashful (or egotistical) to admit that I didn't know what a REO was, let alone how it worked. Now I know that they all work differently, so you darn well BETTER ask the question up front or suffer the consequences. Now I know that only the smart and experienced Realtors ask the question.
I have taped the question up on top of my computer display and I frequently chuckle as I apply it to a new situation. Process is more important than details if you want to be the engineer on the railroad!
