Trying New Things ~ Artichokes today.

Never let it be said that I am not adventuresome!  I always thought these things looked like cacti and they are thistles!

The other day, I awoke with a bee in my bonnet and went shopping determined to find some "new" food... tired of the same ol' same ol'.  I came home with 3 new foods.. an artichoke being one of them.  Tryig New Things ~ Artichokes today.

I had to look up online how to cook an artichoke.  Simply Recipes has instructions for cooking and eating one too!  I had not considered that  I might not know how to eat one, I thought I knew how to EAT anything edible.. but I was wrong.

Anyway, steamed for 45 minutes with lemon, bay leaf, and garlic and then dipped the leaves in melted butter and ate accordingly... well for a a few leaves.  It didn't take much for me to know that this is not going to become a regular at my house!  :)

I don't know much about artichokes but there are some things I do know about.... like real estate for sale in Idabel Oklahoma.  I can talk that talk.  Call me.  Judi Barrett 580-212-5946  Integrity Real Estate Services LLC 118 SE Avenue N, Idabel, OK 74745  Tring New Things ~ Artichokes today... we'll see what tomorrow holds in store!

Hi Judi.  In life, there are many things worth fighting for, and the heart of an artichoke is definitely one of them for me.   Thanks for sharing.

Marie Haydock  I didn't make it to the heart... is it better?

Definitely!  It's why you fight through all the leaves.  As long as it's cooked enough, but not too much, it's got great texture and a mildly nutty flavor that pairs oh so well with the various butter dips and aioli's.

I am sorry that you didn't like the artichoke but it is like hard shelled crab - some things are worth fighting for and others are not..... to each his own. ......

Hi Judi - I think you have to aquire a taste for them.  My mother in law used to make them but I never took to them.

I love artichoke, but I discard the outer leaves and get to the heart of it.  I recently had Jicima for the first time.  After peeling (which was difficult) we loved it. I made oven fried potato chips with it.

Good morning Judi. I like artichokes but wouldn't attempt them at home.
