Have fun but, please, don’t eat the snow!

Don't eat the snowThere are positive things that come out of snowstorms. Quality time with family, building a snowman, shoveling a little at a time, neighbors working together, families building quinzee, sledding, making snow ice cream --- wait, eating snow may not be the best idea!

As beautiful as snow is adding milk, sugar and vanilla with make snow ice cream but, it won’t clean the pollutants out of the snow that were collected and woven into the snowflakes intricate ice crystal shapes on their journey down from the clouds to our streets, yards, and cars.

The proverb, “You must eat a peck of dirt before you die” may suggest to the literal mind actually ingesting a peck or equivalent, 2 gallons, of dirt when that wasn’t the intended meaning at all. Sure, we eat some dirt, unintended morsels on occasion but not with intent. We also go through a lot of dirt, we endure unpleasant things in our lifetimes. That’s what the saying is really about.

So please, don’t eat the snow or you may actually meet your quota long before you intended to.

I tried the snow ice cream once and it wasn't great.  It had been snowing for a couple days and we had about 3 feet on the ground so I wasn't too worried about pollutants.  I tried it and then went to the freezer for a scoop of the real stuff.

I think snow ice cream would be a fun experiment, but I can't imagine it being as decadent as the real thing.

Diane - That's some good advice. There are all kinds of thing floating around in the atmosphere. We have no choice in having to breath it but we certainly don't have to put it in our stomach.
