What makes a "great agent," great?

Is it their perceived success as they show up in a luxury car, wearing Italian shoes, a shiny watch on their wrist, wearing a perfectly-tailored suit? Since real estate is not conducted on a red carpet or on the set of a James Bond film, these things are really only surface-level.

Is the agent "great" because they chose to spend $20,000 on a custom website? Since the invoice isn't hovering over the home page, no one will know what was spent on the website.
Unless, of course, the agent is walking around telling people what they spent.  That would just be plain strange.

Is the agent "great" because their
email signature says "The best way to compliment me is to refer me to your friends or family?" That's everyone's email signature. Let's be honest, we all know that every agent isn't great. Often, they don't even do enough business to consider it their profession. The "ask and you shall NOT receive" approach to real estate never seems to work out.

So what is it? What makes an agent "great?" The answer is not what you wear or drive, how many dollars you throw at marketing, or how much you ask for more business.

It is your likability.

People do business with you because they like you. It is such a simple notion-the notion of being liked.

Yes, people judge you on your appearance. People absolutely go to your
website to validate that you do indeed exist and to look at properties on your website. However, they choose to use you as their agent because they like you. Their decision is based on whether you appear to be a good person: trustworthy, humble, hard-working, and sincere.

When someone likes you, they want you to succeed. This is where their referrals are coming from- their desire to help you make money. Have you ever referred business to someone you can't stand? Nope. That doesn't make sense, does it?

So get to know your clients a little better. Give them the opportunity to like you. The more they like you, the more they will remember you. It is when you are remembered that your
business flourishes. We promise.
