What Buyers can learn from the 2015 Survey of Home Buyers and Sellers

The annual Association of Realtors' "Survey of Home Buyers and Sellers" is a 133 page report with a myriad of information, from racial characteristics of buyers, use of internet, to age of home sellers, and much more.

Here are some interesting tidbits from the 2015 survey that give insight into the current American home buyers:

• 13% of home buyers purchased a multi-generational home to take care of aging parents, for cost savings, or because children over the age of 18 are moving back home.

 

• There was only  a median of 14 miles between homes that recent buyers purchased and the homes that they moved from.

 

• Buyers typically purchased homes for 98% of the asking price.

 

• Buyers searched for 10 weeks and looked at a median of 10 homes before buying a home.

 

• The typical home purchased in 2015 was 1,900 square feet, had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and was built in 1991.

 

• Buyers searched for 10 weeks and looked at a median of 10 homes before purchasing a home.

   

 

• 80% of buyers reported they view a home purchase as a good investment.

 

• The most important factors home buyers cited when choosing an agent was the reputation of the agent.
