16th Annual Land Trust Oyster Roast

By

I'm sure that a famous writer has pointed out that the more you have to write about, the less time you have to write. This, fortunately, has been my situation these first weeks of the new year: I've heard some great live music, enjoyed some terrific meals (and learned to make pasta at home!), caught up on some movies and television shows, and taken a couple of real estate contracts classes. I promise not to describe the contracts classes, although we did hear some horror stories as cautionary tales! But I did want to mention a wonderful event that we (my husband and I, not the royal "we") attended last week: the annual Land Trust Oyster Roast. Hundreds of people gathered under the Spanish moss-festooned live oak trees at Gascoigne Park on an evening that was just cool enough to seem like winter. A dozen local restaurants provided chicken, seafood, side dishes, and dessert to supplement the steaming oysters, which rolled out of the roaster every few minutes. We listened to local singer/guitarist Owen Plant with at least five different sets of friends, and were sorry when we had to go home, which was when they ran out of beer. Another fun evening on the island!
