Throwing Down The Gauntlet

From underdogs, to underprivileged, to plain ole' under the weather... nothing grabs my attention more than people in need.  Perhaps it comes from a heartfelt place of having experienced all of those things personally.

Recently, my friend and chairman of CRS Oregon, Adam Bogle, threw down the gauntlet and challenged his fellow CRS designees to donate to the Maslow Project for its annual Back-to-School event.  He asked for donations to purchase backpacks to fill them with school supplies for underprivileged kids.  No brainer... consider it done!

Another friend and fellow ActiveRainer, Tammy Lankford, set-up a GoFundMe.com site to gather donations for medical expenses for fellow Realtor and ActiveRainer, Steve Loynd.  Steve fell from a 30 ft' ladder last year and broke his pelvis and jaw and was wheelchair bound for awhile.  Challenge accepted!

I too, was the recipient of kindness after being hit by a car as a pedestrian in a crosswalk last fall.  I couldn't walk or drive for a week, so a friend (and fellow Realtor) offered to take care of my clients and handle my deals while I rested.  She even made a few runs to 31 Flavors for my favorite ice cream. 🍦

It's never difficult to identify someone in need... a quick peruse of Facebook can provide plenty of opportunities to serve.  There's no need to wait for someone to throw down the gauntlet before we rise to the occasion.  If we simply follow the path where our heart leads, we'll more than likely find a sweet soul who could benefit from our random acts of kindness.  Be the blessing you wish to see in the world today!

Wonderful post! I wish more people felt the same way. There are so many people in situations we can't imagine, and sometimes just a little kindness could mean so much to them.

Love your post! It is so true to never assume someone elses position without knowing them completely.  Being humble goes a very long way!

Mel this post touched my heart.....it really doesn't take much to first be aware someone may need a little (or a lot) of special care, kindness or help.  Just this week a very dear friend helped my husband with a huge main water line plumbing issue all while he was out of town on business. Such caring people - I am so grateful for the loving friends in our lives.

Mel!! You have been missed and it's so good to read you again. I had no idea about your accident (how in the world are we not connected on FB?) but am so very glad to hear that you had a kind soul helping you out. You know I would pick up all 31 flavors for you if it wasn't for the 'commute'.

Paying it forward.. beautiful and fulfilling.

I was really touched by this post, Mel, and just the sort of thing I would expect you to share and comment on.

There are so many who can benefit from help in different ways - its not always financial - and taking that step, whatever it might be is rewarded with appreciation, thanks, or just  knowing you helped a fellow human in need. It doesn't take much to have an impact!

The sharing that goes on here is AR is impressive.

Jeff

Totally agree Kathleen... and what a wonderful world it would be ;-)))

Awww... thanks Jeff!  You're just the kind of guy who goes out of his way to do a kind deed... walking a girl home (wink, wink).  Truly, you're a kind soul, and it totally shines through in everything that you do.
