Winter 2016 AR MeetUp in Calabasas

And Some Thoughts About ActiveRain

ActiveRain MeetUp

On Monday, January 25 a small group of ActiveRain members from Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles Counties came together once again for Winter 2016 AR MeetUp.  This time the location was in Calabasas at Industry Bar and Grill.   Although it was short notice --- almost like a Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland  impromptu Open House it was successful. The gathered group had a good time sharing food, drink and stories.

Industry ActiveRain MeetUp

Ron and Alexandra Seigel from Carpinteria in Santa Barbara Country were the first of the hosts to arrive. If you have questions about branding, travel and/or living the good life -- these two are great resources for information and fun!

I made the trip west from Pasadena and arrived far before the 5pm meeting time due to the unpredictability of our efficient freeway system so I found a nearby wi-fi spot where I could catch up online with Roger D. Mucci before heading to the restaurant.

Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA chose the venue and announced to us that the trip was a relatively easy and stress-free ten minute drive.  Did he arrive in his Search and Rescue vehicle? It may have been his first MeetUp but Ryan dove right in as if he was on one of his volunteer missions in the nearby canyon areas of Malibu.

Next to arrive was host Endre Barath, Jr. who longingly looked at the wine bottle on the table while he waited for his glass to arrive. The Land Guy knows his stuff and was busy with an ready-to-go client visiting from out-of-the-country.

Inna Ivchenko had a particularly trying day with a short sale transaction(yes,we learned they still exist).    Hopefully, this issue has been resolved so Inna can continue to prosper in 2016.

As one might imagine the talk involved ActiveRain.  The recent webinar. Points. Changes.  Questions.  Answers.

There was talk of our industry at Industry.  Changes in our communities.  Branding. Flipping for profit.  New players entering the market place.

And then there was other stuff.  Want to know more?  Come to the next AR MeetUp or host your own.

I want to add this:

I joined ActiveRain for my business. I have learned a lot.   I continue to learn everyday.  There is business that I have enjoyed because of ActiveRain.   Like any marketing activity(and I do consider AR marketing), it did not occur overnight but over time while putting forth effort that made me wonder at times -- is this worth it?

However, it is the the relationships that have been formed that have been a surprise to me.   I was having a conversation with Noah Seidenberg --- that would not have been as probable without ActiveRain.

And I’m grateful to AR for that.   Things can and do change but many of the relationships and friendships that have occurred because of this place are, I feel, quite enduring.     Just my two cents. So if you have the opportunity attend a MeetUp.

Great writeup Michael Jacobs!  It was a pleasure meeting everyone in person... and next time we'll go on an indulgence hopping trip from the specialty chocolate & gelato place, to the Italian pastry place to Sweet Arleen's (a winner on Cupcake Wars).  Maybe we could all also go and sample the "other cash crop" of Malibu, at the local wine tasting bars.

Looking forward to the next time,

Ryan

Michael, you did a great job sharing the meetup with us, so well written. I think the best part about the Rain is the relationships formed and it was a surprise to me too. The frienships formed here will last a lifetime.

My life is so much richer thanks to AR. My husband mentioned the other day how many wonderful friends we have directly as a result of the Rain. You are one of the folks, I intend to meet one day. It will happen. ;)

Wow I am really sorry I missed this. Will we have another inthe  Los Angeles area in the near future?  I have only been to one and it was great fun meeting some of you. Too bad I missed Inna Ivchenko my old friend, we use to be at the same office together some time ago.

Adele Langdon -- sorry you missed it too.  Bob Crane in his post highlighting the collective turnout for the recent Winter MeetUps includes the proposed dates of the other events scheduled for the year.  I'm not sure when/where or if the next Los Angeles area MeetUp will take place but if I'm involved, I'll let you know.

Hope all is going well with you.

Michael Jacobs - It was refreshing to read this again. I don't think any of us planned to meet such great people in person or via blogging only. But I am glad for all the great people who I met in person, spoke to on the phone, or just feel connected to all because of ActiveRain.

I am thankful for you!

Michael Jacobs - Here it is five months later from commenting the last time and I have to say, reading the Title didn't jog my memory, and even though it hasn't been so long ago that I read it again, I still read it as if I was reading it for the very first time.

Although I never met any of the people you mentioned in this Blog Post, I have to say, I enjoy my AR virtual chats via blogging with each of you in the past, just as much as I do today with those who remain.

Oddly enough, when you mentioned Noah, I always felt like I've known him my whole life. The University were I received my Bachelor's Degree is located in Evanston. It's a beautiful city. I moved further north than Evanston in 1979 and even had a doctor in Evanston. But when he talked about Lake Michigan and the City of Chicago, that's what I know best. Lake Michigan is like the Midwest Ocean. Noah has the blood of a true Midwestern. I think you would have really enjoyed meeting him in person. And I get the feeling that if I go back to IL to see my relatives and met up with Noah, I would never stop laughing.

There are days when I really miss laughing and some of the goofy things Roger would come up with when he wrote blog posts. It's crazy how each person has a personality that comes out in their writing. For me, that's the beauty of ActiveRain.

You are also memorable and I wish you all the things you are hoping for and dreaming about. I am glad I've kept up communicating with you and always happy to hear from you too. You remain, one of the greatest guys on ActiveRain.
