The Waldorf Astoria: New York City, NY or Beverly Hills, CA soon you will have a choice you can come to Beverly Hills,CA or go to NYC. Needless to say in the Winter when they are blizzards the Southern California temperate climate might be an easy choice.
Every time I went to New York City better known to the locals as NYC or the City I always made it my business to have a drink if not lunch, dinner or afternoon snacks at the Waldorf Astoria. Needless to say I considered it a New York City Institution and an Icon. The last thing I would have expected is the Waldorf Astoria coming to Beverly Hill, CA. Needless to say I am thrilled instead of me going to the Waldorf Astoria, the Waldorf Astoria is coming to me.
Now to give you a little history this was not an overnight success. Media entertainment mogul Merv Griffin was in the middle of buying an iconic land in Beverly Hills (the Vineyard…but that is another blog post) he could not put the deal together instead ended up buying the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel. Some of us Realtors thought it was a consolation price. Needless to say many events have taken place at the Hilton, some I can share others are best kept quiet. I remember having drinks in the lobby bar when Charles Barkley was there with his entourage, sadly I could not approach him, because I was with clients discussing a mega deal…. We all know what happened to Whitney Houston….
Anyway I am digressing, getting back in 2003 Benny Alagem purchased the Beverly Hilton from Merv Griffin for a nominal $130 million dollars and with a great marketing strategy, aggressive negotiations and numerous battles got something approved that even the Four Seasons Hotel Chain could not. That is to get the Waldorf Astoria in place of the Beverly Hills Hilton. Not only that, but to have residences as well. Those of you, who follow my blog posts have seen and read when I have written about the Ultra Luxury Lifestyle and Condominiums that are being built and sold above the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. Since that writing they have turned over a few times for extra profit. Why, clearly the lifestyle is fantastic and the Ultra Luxury treatment they receive from the Montage is par none. In case you missed it here is one of my posts about it I wrote about four plus years ago The Residences at the Montage in Beverly Hills,CA and here is another one a couple years before
Well now with that said could you imagine what the value will be for the residences at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills? Well without further comment please check out the link.

There has been a great deal of controversy over the past five or six years getting this project approved. Kudos to Benny Alegem for getting this done. Not wanting to go into the drama, the battles, and the opposition, let me just congratulate him for his victory.
Clearly it will be opening next year some time. I see the progress whenever I drive through the “short cut” from Santa Monica Blvd crossing over to Wilshire Blvd to get to the “Flats of Beverly Hills” to show my 10.8 acres of Development Opportunity in 90210. Needless to say I am digressing again. Check out the Cranes that is the true tell tale of progress.
Now if you want to participate, please write in the comments bellow what you think a two-bedroom unit will be selling for in the 12 story Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, CA next year? Keep in mind Penthouse Units go for a Premium not just in Beverly Hills but nearby Century City as well as on Wilshire Blvd in Westwood.
