A few years ago, a buyer found me through a recommendation from a local rescue I support. We began working together and hit it off because she is also an animal lover and has 4 dogs of her own, as do I! We ultimately found a perfect property with over an acre for her and her dogs to enjoy.
As we got to know each other, I learned that she offers pet sitting services. Instead of boarding a pet or pets off premesis when traveling, the pets can remain in the home and she makes several visits to let them out, walk them, give them emotional attention and feed/water them. This is fanastic for the pet as they can stay in their familiar environment and don't have to be crated, unless that is your personal preference. It seems this method would be less stressful and healthier for both the pet and pet's family.
When my husband and I went on our 18 day honeymoon, we had the pleasure of hiring Shirley Ann Madeira (she goes by Sam) of Nana's Pet Care to look after our 4 dogs. Before departure, she came to meet the dogs and view their feeding routine and other special needs. We could not have been happier with her service. We have a senior dog and we were both nervous about leaving him for such a long period of time. Sam understood our anxiety, not just for our senior dog but for the wellfare of all of our dogs so she would occassionally text message me with an update to let me know how the dogs were getting on, if they were eating, what their temperment was, etc. She spent a good amount of time with them for each visit so it wasn't a hurried feed them and take them out and leave. They were able to receive emotional attention too.
