Launch '16 Leadership Summit- Realtor Takeaways to Boost Business

Last week, the Thomas Group Realty team participated in an all-day leadership summit, Launch '16, that brought together sales, business and real estate teams for some sales and leadership training. With local and national speakers, who each brought a unique key piece to this leadership event, we spent the day discussing strategies to launch our businesses into 2016.

Below are some of the highlights that Thomas Group Realty Realtors took away from each speaker. The speakers were: Gator Softball coach Tim Walton, national sales trainer Terry Watson, wounded warrior Luke Murphy and master motivator Giovanni Livera. We all felt like we learned a lot, and we are definitely going to participate again next year for Launch '17. 

 

Gator Softball Coach Tim Walton:

- Learn to recognize human character so you know how to appropriately communicate with a specific person. Coaching boys and girls is very different (softball) so you must adapt to your team.

- In sports, the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the one on the back. In real estate, you are a team within a team so focus on building up your brand (the name on the back of the jersey).

- You must set a specific time frame (like seasons) and set goals and evaluate those goals. Evaluate at the beginning of your "season" and again at the end. Adjust to improve every time.

- Sustaining success is harder than achieving it. As an example, just because you were a top Realtor 5 years ago, doesn't mean you get to hold on to that glory in any way that will produce sales for you now. Every year is a new challenge to sustain and improve on your business from before.

 

Sales Trainer/Motivational Speaker Terry Watson 

- Terry has a lot of useful information on his website, www.terrywatson.com

- The No.1 customer pet peeve is when their Realtor only tells them what is happening, not what is about to happen. Even worse is when a Realtor does not tell a client when something goes wrong. 

- You must physically write out your goals and put them somewhere you can see every day.

- Ask your customers and your team, "what is most important to you in this transaction?"

- Have a strategy to keep calm when all seems to fall apart, always keep your cool in front of customers.

- Have a set of rules about how you do business and stick to them. For example: I only work with pre-qualified buyers etc.

- Don't do someone else's work for them, "it's not your monkey." Don't take on other people's problems or stress.

 

Wounded Warrior - Luke Murphy

After 2 tours overseas, Luke Murphy came home with a purple heart and two amputated legs. His story of facing death and choosing to live is not only inspirational but also so powerful, you can read it here. Luke did not let his injury keep him from continuing his life as a successful Realtor and motivational speaker, here are some key highlights:

- It's not what you can't do, it's what you can do. If you feel like you have stretched your limit, push a little more.

- Remember the things you wake up for in the morning (kids, partner, hobbies, etc), and think about them when you feel like you're losing it, then get up and go on with your day. 

- Hard times will always be there, you must choose to have a positive attitude. How you react is the true outcome of that situation.

 

Master Motivator - Giovanni Livera

- Put a deadline on achieving your dream. Example: you have always wanted to buy a boat, change the dream to - you have always wanted to buy a boat by the time you are 45. Once you have a clear deadline in mind, it's easier to begin the process of little steps to get there.

- Take time to build good relationships with your colleagues and partners in the business. We all work better when we work together.

- Never stop developing your talent. Yes, you should take that "selling haunted houses" class or get your GRI, always work toward being better at what you do. 

- No change = no change. Unless you change something about you or how you do business, the outcome will always be the same.

 

I urge you to look up these speakers and read their available materials; Terry Watson has a good list of leadership books and articles to help further inspire leaders to be proactive about their business.
