On January 20, 2015, David Crowe of National Association of Home Builders reported that there were 1.11 million housing starts in 2015, increased 10.8% from 2014. Single family starts gained 10.4% to 715,300 and multifamily starts rose 11.4% to 396,000. Single family starts in all regions were higher in 2015. In addition, builders could not start many of the requested permits.
