Dress for success

In our business a “suit and tie” is not required anymore. And for some of us who are on call after hours can get a call/text to pop out to see a new listing that has just hit the market, In my territory we need to RUN not walk if we want to get our offer in before everyone else.

So I must admit, I am the person that will drop everything to go see that home because I like to win!  This means you may get me in yoga pants and a baseball cap.

However, when a friend or family member becomes a client, I do not shorten or remove anything from the process. We still have a buyer/seller consult. I do not let my personal life get in the way of showing homes.  I once had a friend buying a home and she asked to see a listing.  I asked when they would like to go, her response was "I know you’re busy - so when ever it works for you".  I had to stop that train of thought right then and there - I said, "till we close,  you are the client". They may have more insight to what is going on in my personal life but this does not affect our business relationship.

When I meet them for the first consult, I am in my business attire. Now I am one of those Realtors who wears jeans with a nice Jacket or blouse.  My point being nothing changes for my family and friends.

I think this is even more important for the younger generation just getting into the business. My daughter who is 25, however has worked with me in some aspect since she was 13, probably gets more dressed up then the person who has been in the business for more the 25 years.

I still believe in dressing for success, I still believe clothes make the person, I still believe it changes how we think when we get up and get dressed up. I do believe this “old fashion” rule still needs to be in play today.

What are your thoughts?
