Keeping Trendy With 2016 Colors

White and off-white are the dominant colors this year, not only for home decor, but for paint, as well.  Why?  For one, white kitchens are extremely popular. Number two, there’s an increase in renters who often can’t paint their walls.

The good news is there are many different whites.  Some white paints look pink, other whites look blue or green.  It may sound easy, but about.com says depending on what other colors you have in your home, you’ll want to make sure you pick the right shade of white.  Be especially careful of pairing white and off-white with smoky charcoal and deep brown with brushed gold and copper accents.

Be a little daring in your kitchen.  White kitchens with stainless steel appliances and marble countertops are still in.  But you can still be trendy in 2016 by changing it up a little bit.  Try painting kitchen cabinets in neutral gray or beige.  A growing trend is to paint your lower cabinets a shade darker than the upper kitchen cabinets.

Accent in warm gold.  Brushed and warm gold accessories are hot in 2016.  Don’t confuse this with the brass accents that were popular years ago.  Since this new gold has more sophistication, it can be a neutral accent since it’s not shiny or bright.

Go copper.  It’s quietly gaining popularity as a metal accent, mainly due to it’s warmth and versatility.  You can accessorize with copper without having to add a new color to your decor.  Copper looks great paired with warm colors like brown and gray/beige.

Either white or dark walls are popular for 2016.  White is still a hot color trend for walls but so are dark colors, even if it’s not neutral.  The trending colors have an almost black look.  The plus side is dark walls give you more accessorizing color options.

Not into dark colors?  Try pink!  Yes, pink and pastels are growing in popularity and are a good alternative to white walls.  Try accenting pink walls or light blue walls with charcoal gray or brown furniture or accessories.  You might end up liking it!

I really appreciate people who have a flair and natural abitlity to color match and decorate, because I seem to be so completely lacking that skill myself.  I am always envious of those who seem to make decor look so awesome, when for me I just can't hardly tell which colors look good together even.

Being that I'm someone who is an art major or was, color is always a wonderfully big deal to me!
