My Favorite East Valley Dog Parks

Dogs are amazing. Filled with life and love, they’re always by your side. I walk my dog, Lucky, around Ahwatukee as much as I can, but sometimes a simple walk just wont do. That’s when we head down to the dog park. She loves playing and interacting with her newly acquainted four-legged friends. She’s also very fond of mooching pets from us adults. If you live in the East Valley—Ahwatukee, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Phoenix, or Tempe—here are a few of my favorite dog parks to take Lucky to. (the one on the left is Lucky)

Favorite Dog Parks

RJ Dog Park at Pecos Park

(Great location for Ahwatukee, Chandler, and South Tempe residents)

Located off 48th street in Ahwatukee, RJ’s is not only the closest dog park to my house, but it’s one of Lucky’s favorites. This off-lease park is named after a police service dog that fell in the line of duty. It’s a pretty big park with two separate areas; one for small dogs, the other for medium and large dogs. Both play areas are fully fenced with double-gates, and have shaded areas and water fountains. Rj’s is open from 6am-11pm daily.

Tempe Sports Complex Dog Park

(Great location for Ahwatukee, Tempe, West Mesa, and North Chandler residents)

The dog park at the Tempe Sports Complex is considered one of the best dog parks in the East Valley. It’s off lease, and very big. There are a lot of shaded areas and paths enclosed within the fences. The couple times I have been here, all of the owners and dogs were very nice. I did see some little kids running around inside the park, so if your dog is timid around little ones, you may want to keep an extra close out. This park is open daily from 6am-10pm.

The Bark Park at Paseo Vista Recreation Area

(Great location for Chandler, Gilbert, and South East Mesa residents)

This is my daughter-in-law’s favorite Chandler dog park. One cool thing about the Paseo Vista Recreation Area is that the land use to be a working landfill—don’t worry the smell is long gone. The park is located on a hill, so you can take in some really nice desert views, especially around sunset, while your dog is playing. The park has multiple gated-enclosures and the people are very friendly. However, it doesn’t allow little kids to run around. It’s open daily from 6am-10:30pm, except on Thursdays when it’s closed from 6am-2pm for maintenance.

Debbie, this is really great that the Greater Phoenix East valley area has so much to offer dog lovers like yourself!  Lucky, is indeed lucky to have so many dog parks to run, play, and socialize with other dogs!

Thanks Bruce.  If  any of your clients are looking to get out of the "shoveling snow" and into shoveling some sunshine.  I'm here for them!
