La Crescent, Minnesota, population 4,810, lies across the Mississippi River from La Crosse, Wisconsin. While La Crosse is the center of commerce, health and higher education in the area, La Crescent feels no slight. Residents are downright proud to live in their city and they are proud Minnesotans.

Located right down the pike from La Crosse, a 2 minute trip, La Crescent is a highly desirable city for buyers. A small town atmosphere, but close to shopping and dining. Travel time is minimal.
La Crescent's claim to fame is Apples. In the 40's it was a huge industry, but the numbers of growers have dwindled as houses have crept into former orchards. There are still many orchards and La Crescent is still the largest grower of apples in Minnesota. You can see this history in the names of the streets - Macintosh and Jonathan to name a few. La Crescent is built at the foot of the bluffs of the Mississippi River, and there are scenic drives around and above the city that are breathtaking in their views, especially in the fall.

Home values in La Crescent are higher, partially due to the fact that property taxes are about half that in La Crosse. There were 63 homes sold last year at an average price of a little over $210,000. Comparable to the average price of homes in the city of La Crosse, which was about $120,000. Finding a home for sale under $100,000 is nearly impossible.

When looking for a place to live, a beautiful drive or a bag of apples, the trip to La Crescent is well worth the time.
