Alton
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy.
Alton was born in Castries, Saint Lucia back in 1930. I have no information as to his fathers or mothers name, so onward we go. All I can tell you is apparently he graduated but from where I can’t tell you. You may ask why I would write about someone with so little information. Well, I can tell you it is for what he accomplished is my goal. What I can tell you about Alton is that he married three times all of them ending in divorce. I can also tell you he was hired as a teacher by Boston University, where he founded the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre in 1981.
So sorry, you may know him better as Derek “Alton” Walcott. He currently is Professor of Poetry at the University of Essex. He is only the second person from the Caribbean to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. He has published more than twenty plays, several essays and numerous poems. Among his most memorable plays were Dream on Monkey Mountain, The Odyssey and the Capeman.
