SALT the Restaurant in Marina Del Rey, CA 90292
We decided to meet our friends from Boston at SALT, that is the Restaurant in the Marina Del Rey Hotel which is now part of the Pacifica Hotel chain, in Marina del Rey, CA, 90292. It has been years since I stepped on the ground, many years ago we used to have my parents stay in the Hotel. It was very convenient, we lived less than a mile from there so I could pick them up in the morning and drop them off in the evening…. Since the last time my father was visiting it was very hard for me to bring friends there…. Mercifully they did a huge update and it was closed for a few years.
Needless to say after a $25 million dollar make over they reopened. I have been following the Restaurant and the reviews for some time. The Executive Chef is Mark Gold. He is very creative and uses cooking techniques few are familiar with, which clearly he picked up when he was at NOMA in Stockholm. Needless to say it has been barely a year and I could hardly wait to go there… Diane was not so thrilled so a couple times she chose a different restaurant. She did not understand what a culinary experience she might be missing out on.
Now that our friends were visiting and they happened to have a terrific food and wine palate, there were no more excuses. Anyway I am digressing… the service was excellent. The waiter and the sommelier as well as the manager came by to make sure everything was fine. I happened to bring two bottles of wine, a white and a red with me. The corkage fee was well worth the $25 per bottle. I could tell the staff understood what I bought with me and were impressed.
We had four appetizers and shared them, the Japanese Hamachi, the Red Beets and Buratta and the Avocado Hummus and Italian Meatballs which were a special. I could have eaten all by myself, after all we were with friends so I reluctantly shared….
Now the main course we had four but two were identical so there three different main courses. Diane and I shared just to taste and needless to say we could have switched and eaten the others meal.
She had to Scottish Salmon and I had the Scallops, ironically usually it would be the other way around. Bob also had the Scottish Salmon and Paula had the Pork Chop. Needless to say everyone was impressed with the food preparation as well as the taste. I will try to recreate the Salmon. Now on the other hand I will need to go back and taste the Scallops to recreate it. (mostly because we talked and drank a lot so I could not totally focus on all the hidden ingredients)
Keep in mind we did not even focus on the views. Needless to say because we were so into catching up on lost time since we last saw each other. The Restaurant has awesome Marina Del Rey Ocean Views. So if you are looking for a romantic and relaxing place to eat awesome food, SALT is the place.
