Post Properties Breaks Ground for Centennial Park Apartments
It would seem that the urban core of Atlanta, meaning Downtown and Midtown (and even Buckhead) see no signs of stopping with apartment construction. Well, let's back up....this is first for Downtown!
Post Properties has broken ground on their new community that will sit adjacent to the World of Coke Museum, the Civil Rights Museum and Centennial Olympic Park. You do have to admit, this has "location, location, location" all over it!
The project is designed to have over 400 homes, spread between two buildings that will be split by Simpson Street. The need for street activity will be addressed with retail space. Homes will range from 537 square feet (ah, that's a cozy downtown pad) to 1,356 square feet.
Each block is to have a distinctly different building to help keep the unique character of the neighborhood.
We can certainly say good-bye to about 3 surface parking lots in the area of the World of Coke, Georgia Aquarium, the Park and nearby Georgia Dome and Phillips Arena. (a.k.a. you might want to really consider MARTA the next time you are headed to Downtown to visit any of these venues!)
Included in the community will be "workforce housing" priced at $1,090 per month versus the "retail" rate of $1,620 per month.
Despite the project being rentals ( hey, I am in the business of SELLING real estate) this is a huge win for the Downtown area. There is currently a very limited inventory of FOR RENT options for anyone wanting to call Downtown home. And of course, ugly parking lots with broken asphalt and lots of weeds....we won't miss that!
Based on the shear number of apartments under construction, we may find ourselves working with these buildings to help them fill up. There are A LOT of apartments coming!
Here's what the site currently looks like.....
And after construction....
