“Safe Internet Day” --  2GB of free cloud storage "today only"

Maybe it is not really free -- you will need to invest a minute or so of your Blackboardtime.  But it is something that you should be doing anyway.  Google will give you the extra 2GB of cloud storage for completing a "Security checkup" by February 11, 2016.

Did you know that you already have 30GB of free cloud storage from Google? And if you add the free 2GB you will have 32GB of free storage.

This can be used in Gmail, Photos, and Google Drive.  If you are not using it now, you should be able to copy all of your files in Google Drive.   Although if you have tons of photos or huge files, you may need more.

Go to the "Security Checkup".  Just follow the simple instructions and you will be done quickly.

During the process you can check permissions, recovery information, passwords and more to be certain that your account and your information are safe.  More information at the Official Google Blog.

Good evening Gary. Today, 30GB isn't squat! (sorry). I still rely on my real time back-up via OSX. I have had to use it a time or two when my HD crashed.

Hi Michael TeamCHI - Complete Home Inspections, Inc. I agree it is not much.  I have 1TB right now online and two different 2TB portable drives.  However, there are so many who do not have any type of backup -- that even 32GB would be a great help.  Many agents would only be backing up documents, a few photos and some other stuff.

I actually think the idea of a security check is more important than the 32GB.

What do you use for your backup - online or hard drives?

have a great day.

Thanks for this one Gary!  I went through and did it on 3 of my 4 google accounts (fourth one doesn't hold data, so no issues there).

Ronald Gombach there are ways to make it more secure.  Encryption is one and making sure data is stored only on servers w/in the united states is another.  There are several companies that are really good at this.  We used to use them in the hospital arena.
