Do Open Houses HAVE to be on Sundays?

Reblogger Praful Thakkar

Sometimes we do certain things just because the way it's been done for ages!

Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl has a different take when it comes to open houses!

What do you think?

Should open houses be only on weekends?

Original content by Wayne Zuhl 0790808

It's pretty traditional in our neighborhood - Open Houses are on Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00.

We advertise our Open Houses, put up plenty of signs, have refreshments available - in general, we follow all of the rules. And, for the most part, Open Houses are lightly attended - maybe we'll average 5-10 people over a 4 hour stretch.

But we're considering something new for a house we're listing tomorrow. The house is in a prime commuter location so we're going rogue.

We're holding an Open House midweek from 5pm to 7pm hoping to catch the commuters. If we have cold water bottles and appetizers available, we're hoping to get a great turnout to see our new listing.

Have you ever gone rogue with your open houses? What do you think?

In and near Boston Metro area, I have seen commuter open houses on weekday evenings - mostly Wednesdays.

Nina Hollander I am sure NYC is exception to this rule. (Well, NYC is exception to so many things related to Real Estate...)

(And I do not like Open Houses either - though if at all if I do, it will be Sunday 11-1)

George Souto you are right - there is no hard and fast rules for open house days. Yes, Sunday, most buyers are free - so it's the best choice.

And the idea of open house is to get people to see the home - so why not pick the best turnout day?

That's the best comment Joy Bender - it's when we can fit in our schedule.

I have seen many mega agents do not work on Sundays - and have their assistants host the open houses for them.

(Whatever works best for one agent may not be the best for another agent - however, Sundays are considered as best for most.)

People do not like weekday open houses - they cannot easily accommodate them in their busy schedule.

Summerizing - most people feel Open Houses are best on Sundays.

Weekday evenings may be another option for Cities.
