Brookhaven MARTA station redevelopment

MARTA is holding public meetings to share information about the proposed Brookhaven-Oglethorpe University Station transit-oriented-development (TOD) and to receive feedback from the Brookhaven community on what is being proposed at the MARTA station. The opportunity for MARTA and the developer to hear first-hand opinions about the development from the Brookhaven community will be invaluable as they seek rezoning to accommodate the proposed development.

Upcoming Community Meetings include:

February 10, 2016 (7:00-9:00pm)

  • District 1 Community Workshop
  • Lynwood Park Recreation Center – 3360 Osborne Road

February 11, 2016 (6:30-8:00pm)

  • District 2 Community Workshop
  • Briarwood Park Recreation Center – 2235 Briarwood Way

February 18, 2016 (6:00–8:00pm)

  • District 3 Community Workshop
  • Capital City Club  – 53 West Brookhaven Drive NE

Brookhaven City Center Partners (BCCP), a master development joint venture of Integral and Transwestern Development Company, has been selected as MARTA’s development partner for the Brookhaven/Oglethorpe Station transit oriented development (TOD). The project will be located on 15 acres of underutilized surface parking on both the east and west sides of the Brookhaven/Oglethorpe Station on Peachtree Road in the City of Brookhaven. This project is part of MARTA’s broader TOD initiative, the goals of which are to increase ridership, generate revenue and support both local community development and regional economic development.

BCCP’s conceptual master plan aims to transform the station surface parking lots into a mixed-use development that will activate a neighborhood-scaled commercial/civic/retail corridor and create a high-quality pedestrian experience that will connect residents to the station and new amenities and services. A strong sense of place will be created between the buildings, crafting “outdoor room” experiences and visual literacy at the ground floors. The incorporation of a range of high-quality housing options with commercial space will foster a vibrant/active community environment.

The major connecting element of the conceptual master plan is an active public park/plaza that connects Peachtree Road and Apple Valley Way through the station. BCCP envisions the transit oriented development site as a working ‘City Center’ focused on neighborhood scale urbanism, not regional-scale destination development. Through a thoughtful balance of uses, which reduce auto trips and traffic around the station, and carefully programmed public realm, this will become an active station surrounded by all the elements that encourage a live, work, play lifestyle while seamlessly integrating into the existing fabric of Brookhaven.

MARTA and BCCP recognize the potential transportation challenges posed by future development in this community and are committed to addressing concerns and including all stakeholders in identifying solutions.

This project is located adjacent to MARTA’s Brookhaven/Oglethorpe Station on the Gold Line. The Brookhaven/Oglethorpe Station is five stops from downtown Atlanta. Three bus routes also serve this station. Just over a half mile to the north is TOWN/Brookhaven, a mixed-use development which includes retail, restaurants and residential apartments. Oglethorpe University is just over one mile to the north of the station.
