How to Prepare for a Spring Sale When Snow is on the Ground

Preparing for a spring sale of your homeIf the idea of moving in the spring is on your mind you may be feeling a little bogged down with all the snow we have had. You may be thinking this will delay your plans for moving but it doesn't have to.

You can be making preparations now for selling your home even though snow may be piled high around your house and yard. This is a great opportunity to really look at the inside of your home and assess its condition and saleability. Would you want to buy your house the way it looks now? Think in terms of what a buyer will want and how they will react to what they see.

  1. Are your rooms too full? Do you need to get rid of some furniture allowing for better traffic flow?
  2. Are the walls covered in artwork and photos? Less is more and allows buyers to see the home.
  3. Could the walls and trim stand a new coat of paint? Would a fresh more current color be a better option than what you have now?
  4. Is there too much clutter/knick-knacks sitting around? What about your closets; are they organized and appearing spacious?
  5. Are your floor coverings accenting your rooms or distracting? Do you need to change them out or get them cleaned?
  6. Are windows letting in light and helping the rooms look bigger?
  7. Is your lighting sufficient with all light fixtures having working bulbs?
  8. Is your heating system functioning properly? Is it time to get it cleaned and serviced?
  9. Can you feel cold drafts in the house? Make a note to check caulking and weatherstripping.
  10. Does it need a deep cleaning? Most houses do after winter and especially before going on the market.

Start now making your list to prepare for the sale of your home in the spring. It is a perfect time to evaluate the inside systems and condition and get started on making them right while the snow is on the ground. After the winter thaw you will be ready to tackle your outside look and presentation and get your home on the market.

If we wait until all the snow is gone it may be too late to hit the market at the best time. Starting now will insure a good springtime launch. Thanks for the reblog Mary.
