Yes, being organized and able to find key documents for the application process is very helpful, and having just done taxes/obtaining income returns is a great time to get started.

Depending upon the amount of the return it could be the icing on the savings cake a potential home buyer was waiting for.

Buyers really need to pay attention to this, especially first time home buyers or even renters that are not thinking they can qualify, you never no when the right opportuntiy presents itself, and if you are not prepared by talking to the right people you may very well miss out- And the further ahead of the actual home search, the better.  Even as much as 6 months to a year is not allowing too much time.  

Nice post. This is a great time for future buyers to consult with a lender and determine whether to use their refund to get their debit to income in line or save for a down payment.  A good lender can help them make the most of their refund and be ready to get some great tax deductions for next year!

Love the paragraph about sprucing up their credit. Cute way to put it, and not as hard to do as people think. 

I have all my returns as handy PDF's for whoever needs them.  When people get loans I tell them just keep it all handy on the computer to send it off when ever someone needs it.

Great artical Gene Mundt.  So many wishing to buy a home do not understand about money for a downpayment and closing costs. If you want to buy a home, you need to be prepared to bring something to the table. Your tax return plus a grant is a great formula for owning a home. Planting the tax return seeds through the 4th quarter results in a great harvest this time of year.
