Do you dress for Success?

Dress for Success

I have read many articles and opinions about how people should dress for success.  Actually, just came by something a short while back from one of the guys on the TV show in L.A. about millionaire realtor or some such.  The guy chooses to dress for success and is in a suit and tie each and every day.  This is likely a very good idea especially because of the area and niche that the realtor works.

Is dressing up, suit and tie the best regardless of the niche or location?  I’m not so sure myself, and I think I subscribe to the point of view that it really depends on the niche because I don’t like to wear suits.

If you’re a realtor that specializes in in vacant land, would you be wearing suits with Armani shoes?

If you’re a realtor that specializes in Alaskan wilderness homes, do you wear a suit and tie?

If you’re a South Phoenix realtor like me, do you wear a suit in tie during the summer when it averages over 100 degrees for over 60 days in the summer?

Also, would people that buy and sell homes in your area appreciate or expect you to dress up?  Surely they want somebody that looks the part, is presentable, and surely knows what they are doing.  Not sure that short, a torn t-shirt and flip flops is the way to go on listing presentations in my area, but as far as I’m concerned a suit and tie are too much for my area and for thank I am glad.

What is your area like, and are you fully dressed up?  Course if you work in a nudist community your suit takes on a whole new meaning.

I like to wear a suit and tie David Baker Realtor - Laveen Homes for sale , no Armoni shoes however. I do it just because people respect it. They believe I am successful because I dress the part and they prefer to employ a "professional" Realtor. BTW most of my clients wear denim and flannel.

I can respect that.  I"ve found that many people respond better to me when I do business casual.  And, I don't like suits, so it works.

I try and dress one step better than my clients.  But, I also dress for the type of property I am showing or looking to list

I was once told to make sure you are the best dressed in the room. In Florida we have agents in shorts and flip flops but that is not me.

There are agents in jeans and T Shirt but that is not me.

I like a dress shirt and dress pants and dress shoes. It depends on who I am meeting if I wear a tie or not.

David, it depends on the type of property. I usually dress eloquently casual. If it is land, commercial or building lots...I may wear jeans and boots.

I agree with you, you always think about your client first, and try to dress accordingly. If you give a presentation for a short sale condo and a regular high end sale, you should be thoughtful and adjust your style, especially blings.
