The Many Moods of Lafayette Park, San Francisco

Real Estate Agent with Compass CA DRE# 01215160

I think of Lafayette Park as the Crown Jewel of parks in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. Encompassing 4 city blocks, it is perched on a knoll bordered by Washington and Sacramento Streets on the north and south, and Gough and Laguna on the east and west.

This morning the mood of Lafayette Park was quiet and mysterious, with more fog slowly drifting by than I've seen in a long time. Adding to the mood was the sound of fog horns on the bay.

By afternoon, all had changed, with the fog giving way to sunshine, crystal blue skies, and the typical drop-dead beautiful bay views.

San Francisco bay views from Lafayette Park

A couple of years ago Lafayette Park underwent a major facelift, removing much of the water-consuming lawn, adding winding, paved pathways with thousands of blooming shrubs and flowers, creating a small quiet gathering areas, spots for picnics, south-facing lawns for sunbathing with the scent of lavender wafting in the air. The off-leash dog area is a huge hit, as is the elaborate children's playground. Tennis courts, picnic tables - there's something here for everyone.

Within a few blocks of Lafayette Park you'll find a wide range of housing, from huge mansions, to Victorian row houses; from elegant condominiums to modest ones and rental apartments.

Good morning, Maria Gilda Racelis and Roy Kelley - the density in San Francisco is high, but we have fabulous neighborhood parks, usually within a few blocks of residences. Lafayette Park is one of them.
