Creating a Smarthome
We have smart phones and smart appliances. What are the benefits to making our whole house smart?
- Get up in middle of night, simply say, “turn on bathroom light”, and Viola.
- Hear an unfamiliar sound, say, “turn on Porch light” or even “ALL lights on”.
- Check on weather or traffic before you leave for work.
- Get help with math or history for students
- Ask interesting factoids that arise during family conversations
- Receipts for cooking
- Whether home or away, you can get email alerts when a motion detector is activated inside your home. You can even look via your smartphone at live video from one or more cameras in or around your property
I live in an area that has little crime or break-in issues. So that was not my primary reason for becoming SMART
When I am away from home, I use my smarthome to:
- Open a locked door for a friend making an unexpected delivery or neighbor bringing my UPS package into my home for safe keeping.
- Turning on various lights on different days or times to make an intruder pass on my home.
- Turn up Thermostat so house is comfortable when I arrive back home.
The list is endless as the Internet your hub is connected to. Cost varies by “How Smart” you want your home to become. One average you’ll invest $500 - $1,500.
There are many devices vying for market share. Two of the more popular names are the Amazon Echo and Insteon hub and switches. Again, many to choose from.
Have fun and call me with any questions.
