One of the things that I do as a Volunteer, is to make afgans for the folks in the Dosher Nursing Center in Southport. I have such a feeling of accomplishment when I finish an afgan and am able to take it to a perfect stranger in our Nursing Center.
I spend approximatly 40 hours Crocheting these afgans and usually spend a few hours an evening making them. I try to take at least 2 afgans to the center each month.
It is such a pleasure to take an afgan to the nursing center and go down the hall and find someone that does not have a lot of personal items in their room. I will then wrap the afgan around them and tell them that I made it "Just for them." They usually start weeping and say "You made it just for me" ...and I reply..."Yes, Just for YOU".
I am always the winner in this. I am humbled by these precious older folks that have come from all walks of life. Such stories and experiences that they share with me.
I challenge YOU to visit and show our elders your respect and appreciation.
