Flea Market Fun in Funky Fremont
Seattle's Fremont neighborhood, self declared "Center of the Universe" has an outdoor, year-round Flea Market every Sunday.
I recently spent a Sunday late morning and early afternoon with some friends poking around finding a couple of treasures and lunch at the Red Door Restaurant & Bar.
We started off by fueling up at Peet's Coffee & Teas at Fremont's main corner, Fremont Ave N and Canal St. The Red Door used to have that location until it was picked up and moved a couple of blocks west for "development".
Fortified with fresh hot coffee and treats, we hit the Flea Market on Canal Street, and checked out the booths.
I found a new favorite; "Mertha" (Blessings in Balinese) and scored some cute shoes.
Lisa, the owner, specializes in unique footwear and decorative cloth from Asia, has fun, fabulous, fashion finds and hosts a booth most Sundays.
My friend, found a dress (being very fashionable she will probably wear it over jeans!) at Shane's booth, he also has a new permanent location in Phinney Ridge at 7700 Greenwood Ave N.
Walking along Canal St and checking out the booths you can find vendors selling collectibles, jewelry, unique fashion ware designed and made by the person selling at their booth. Some vendors become successful to later open permanent shops such as Wish and Utilikilts.
Later we strolled around to see some of our favorite shops, and had lunch at the Red Door, always a great place to enjoy some good Pub food and a micro-brew!
There is more to explore in Fremont...but another time...another post!
Okay...a hint....
Fremont's Troll hiding under Seattle's Aurora Bridge! He's hard to see because he's hiding!
