Is Your State 420 Friendly? I could not help but notice my point total this morning 420,350 and all of the
double meanings that 420 has in Colorado.... okay so I started writing this a few weeks ago and now that 4/20 is upon us I thought I would share a little about what it has meant to Colorado to be a 420 Friendly state.
Yep legal weed here, gives a whole new meaning to the4 MILE HIGH CITY and the revenue to the state and the housing market is off the charts, buyers are moving here form everywhere and it is more than just the legalization of marijuana it is that Colorado is truly at the forefront of so many things, and is one of the best year round states to live in. Colorado is Drop Dead Gorgeous!
I have relatives that come to visit from other states and they always marvel that not only can we spend almost every hour of the summer outside, but we can leave our house open, feeling that wonderful Colorado breeze blowing through the home, nope, no bugs to worry about, heck we even leave the screen doors open when we are out back grilling, we only close them when the neighborhood cat stops by to see what's up.
There are all sorts of rumors about how 420 got started, everything from a police code meaning marijuana smoking in progress, teatime in Holland, the number of chemicals in marijuana and many many more, but what I found was that it was tied to a group of teens in San Rafael,California coined the
term at their local hangout and it took off, creating a "BUZZ" every April 2oth that college students and more around the globe participate in.
Being a 420 friendly state is very interesting indeed, every time I leave Colorado and get together with others outside of the state, the conversation almost always goes back to how "high" is everyone in the state, is it as prevalent as we hear? I was even interviewed on a national real estate radio show about niche marketing and within minutes the interview turned into a conversation about pot in Colorado.
Honestly, we rarely see it here, out of curiosity I have stopped into a store to see what all the vape, hype was about and I was floored by what I saw, so much different than back in my college daze. I can tell you that I have acquaintances that have gotten into the business and they are extremely glad they did, one good friend was a former sherrif, and he took a job as the states safety director for Colorado's
Department of Transportation, he travels around the country explaining to other states what they can expect from this new industry. New safety hazards for the police departments to monitor, but also a huge influx of money to help govern the growth of the industry.
Know this, as an agent if your state is bringing legal marijuana it will bring with it a lot of new business and if you are a commercial agent, well get ready, these guys are buying up every warehouse they can
get their hands on and money is not a problem. The fact that applications to Colorado's colleges is up nearly triple over the past three years should say something about what it brings to the state.
I do know that the "experts" targeted Colorado for a reason, they suspected that this would be the one state that could not only handle the legalization process but all the quirks that come along with it, and so far so good.
And today at 4:20 across college campuses everywhere there will be a strong odor of skunk-weed, in Colorado we used to say the smell of the stockyards was the smell of money, well we are starting to add other aromas to the smell of money here.
