This annual event is a favorite for locals and visitors to Kauai.
Hawaiian quilts have a long tradition and have won the respect of quilt artist worldwide. Kauai's artists incorporate many of the traditional patterns developed on the islands and add their unique interpretations and patterns handed down through their families.
A beautiful example from past years is the quilt shown here, "Hanalei Moon", created by M. Lea Ingram in this photo by Lisa Boyer. Below in another photo by Lisa you can see more traditional Hawaiian quilt patterns created by Pua Miriam Kaona.
This year there will be over 60 quilts made by Kaua‘i residents on display at the show. Many of these will be for sale and some will be designated as “donation” quilts. For those the purchase price will go directly to a charity of the buyer’s choice.
The Kauai Quilt Show will be held from March 18th through the 29th at Kukui Grove Shopping Center in Lihu‘e. Quilts will be displayed from 11am to 5pm everyday and until 8pm on Fridays.
It's FREE so come and enjoy this experience of Kauai's historic and unique quilting tradition. For more information call 808-652-2261.
