Today February 25th is National Clam Chowder Day

Today February 25th is National Clam Chowder Day

Today is marked as National Clam Chowder Day all over the country. No one is quite sure where or when this date was selected but all the top Internet newspapers are running articles as well.

Clam Chowder first came to our county in the 1700's. It is primarily made up of fish or clams, milk, potatoes and onions. It is a thick soup or stew loved by many and the white version is called New England Clam Chowder. Variations to this is the Manhattan Clam Chowder that also has tomatoes in it and is a reddish stew. Another variation is the soup in the sourdough bread bowl. 

So what is your favorite way to enjoy this soup? Please leave a comment below and be sure to check out your favorite restaurants as many are offering free or discounted soup today to honor National Clam Chowder Day.

*Be sure to take one of your clients out for lunch or dinner today and buy them a bowl of clam chowder.

Hi Kristin,  I had no idea today was National Clam Chowder Day!!  Hooray!

I just happen to have a Costco size can of clams that I need to throw into a Texas size recipe of Clam Chowder.  I think I will do it this weekend.  Thanks for the idea.  My recipe of choice, which I have used for years and years, is a family favorite and comes from Julia Child. Definitely white.   The weather report is for rain so a nice bowl of clam chowder will hit the spot.

Kristin- I love soup of any kind but New England Clam Chowder is one of my favorites.  I also like the Manhattan version.  Favorite way to enjoy it?  Hot and with some freshly baked bread.

I love Clam Chowder as it makes me feel at home with my parents since my mom used to make it from scratch. I sometimes buy mine at Costco but always add more clams.
