The Time Block Strategy

We all know that we make money only when we are on the phone, or face to face, with a prospect or client. The more clients or potential clients we can talk to in one day the more money we make-period. Real Estate is not hard, it is a numbers game just like all sales. The key is to increase the number of contacts with clients per day, hopefully without increasing the hours we work each day. But how do we do it? The answer is Time Blocking.

 

Time blocking is simply blocking off time to do those activities that generate business so that they get done. But it is so much more in depth then that. You already time block whether you know it or not. You go on a listing appointment at 7:00 and you block off that time in your day. Or that big client flies into town and you block off an entire afternoon to show them property. You are time blocking. But to explode your business, you need to do that with EVERYTHING in your day. Don’t answer your e-mails all day long- you can spend all day returning e-mails. Don’t return calls every few minutes, you can waste an entire day in return calls or answering in-bound calls. You must block off time to do these important activities.

 

You do not have to answer every call that comes into you. You do not have to be at everyone’s beck and call and you WILL NOT LOSE ANY BUSINESS! How do I know? When you are working all afternoon with that client or you have that 2 hour listing appointment you do not take inbound calls and you do not answer e-mails-yet your business continues. And it WILL continue if you block off 2 hours to make marketing phone calls to those people that you know you need to follow up with but you just have not had the time. Been trying to implement that new marketing campaign but just can’t seem to find the time to do it? Block off two hours to implement it on Wednesday afternoon and RESPECT THE BLOCK! Act as if that 2 hours was an important client. Don’t take inbound calls, don’t surf the net, don’t answer e-mails. For 2 hours just work on that project. Same with your calls. I block out two hours every day from 9-11 to make phone calls and I call everyone. All my outbound marketing calls, all my follow up calls from the afternoon before, anyone I can think of so that I am freed up all afternoon to work on long-term marketing or high impact strategies. Sure, I block off 1 hour to answer e-mails and return calls from 11-12 and another one at the end of the day from 4-5 and the rest of the time I do not look at my e-mails.

Good afternoon Matt,

Time blocking is a necessity in any business and done from the top down.

My feeling is yes when I am with a client not to take calls or look at my emails; but at sometime that day it must have a blocked time to get back to them.
