Is it time to Slap the Drunk Monkey on your shoulder ?

Real Estate Agent with KW Elite

The future holds unlimited opportunities . All types of new skills can be learned ! New exciting

relationships can be formed .  We can exceed our goals and expectations . We're not stuck being

the way we are . We can change and achieve our full potential ! Unless you listen to this guy !

Yes just when we motivate ourselves to meet new people who could enrich our lives or trying

something they are teaching , your Drunk Monkey wispers in your ear . "Is this really something

we should be doing ?" "Are you really gonna enjoy doing that activity ?" "You know you've never

been any good at that before !" "People will laugh at you !" "You will lose all your friends !"

We've all been there trying to decide on something new and challenging . When all of a sudden

your Drunk Monkey appears on your shoulder and whispers in your ear "Oh no , that's too risky

and you might get hurt !" "Better to do nothing, let's keep things the same !" "You know what, let's

spend the day in bed playing Farmville !" Far too often we wind up listening to this guy !

Does this guy look teachable or learning based ? A sponge open to new ideas ? No the Drunk

Monkey on your shoulder is used to getting his way ! Far too often ! Even to our detriment !  I

have it on good authority  that he's even trying to distract you while reading this post ! How many

times have we given control of our lives to this Inner Manager , whether you call him Subconscious

or the Drunk Monkey on your shoulder ? He often plays us like a fiddle ! He continues to live in the

past , when we have a chance to enhance and step into the Future ! No the next time that Drunk

Monkey appears on your shoulder , don't try and bribe him with a banana ! It's clearly time to

slap that Drunk Monkey on your Shoulder ! Your Future depends on it !

Hi Michael -  our past conditioning is our drunk monkey.  That is was people look at what could go wrong rather than what can go right with doing something new.

This made me remember the time I had a monkey for a pet. It was a riot to see it roam the house and do what it does. Unfortunately, it did more poo than do

I struggle with my drunk monkey everyday.  I don't think mine stops at booze.  Some days I think he is a drug addict!!!  Enjoyed your post.

Michael J. Perry - some people call it 'being cautious'! If it did not work for someone, it should not work for me - correct? Not so - it's that drunk monkey....
