The Chatham Retro Suites opened approximately a decade ago and has continued to expand and built their reputation for being one of the finest hotels of its kind. They were awarded the TripAdvisors Travelers`Choice Award 2015 and awarded Top Honors in the Best Hotels Section for all of Canada. This elite honor is awarded to the top 1% of all hotels on Trip Advisor, based on reviews and opinions from millions of travelers.

The Retro Suites Hotel has preserved the Historical elements of the King St. William Block while providing the best modern amenities an upscale hotel can offer. The block now completely housing the Retro Suites through many renovations has retained its original architecture and character.King St. William restored Block It is one of the finest examples of Victorian Architecture in Chatham. Owner Rob Myers of RM Sotherby`s here in Chatham has collected artwork and memorabilia from around the world and the hotel showcases that collections as well as other artwork from his talented artist wife, Cathy.

The staircase in the hotels` lobby dates back to 1895 when it was the Merrill Hotel. The terrazzo floors and tin ceilings along with the contemporary artwork and furnishings welcome guests to the Retro Suites and  an unforgettable stay at this one Retro Suites King St.of a kind hotel.

There are several suites already available such as the Queen Victoria Suite boasting 12 foot ceilings and a 12 foot chandelier. New suites are being added  at this time bringing the total to 45 on completion. There will be unique theme suites such as the Log Cabin Suite which features a stone fireplace for the outdoor lovers and a Sports Room/Suite that will have two large screen TV's perfect for the sports enthusiast. Also, in the plans is  a Mediterranian/Florida themed Suite called The Palm and three rooms based on the already finished Study Room. A new entrance is now available from the parking lot at the west end of the buildingRetro Suites New Entrance which is the area of the block that housed the George Stephens Zink Hardware Store designed and built in 1888. Stephen ahead of his time and a entrapeneur at heart, commissioned T.J. Rutledge to design the building with its unusual glass façade, often referred to as the largest windows in Chatham. Its entrance faced the Market Square where Chatham and area residents came to purchase their fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. My wife remember the farm trucks picking teenagers up early in the morning during the summer months to transport them to the various farms that needed help with their crops. She says she did everything from weeding tomatoes to picking strawberries. Today the Stephens building has been fully restored and now houses the hotels hospitality suite. Quite a transformation! The rear of the restored block has a Miami South Beach look.Restored King St. William Block rear South beach look Congratulations to Rob Myers Chatham long time resident of Chatham-Kent on a very successful project.Completion date for the  Retro Suites newest renovations is set for June 1 /2016.

The Hotel also has their own  street level restaurant, the Chilled Cork, offering fine dining in a casual setting. perfect for a quiet dinner for two on your getaway weekend or great to meet friends who have taken your recommendation and are in town for their getaway.  Show them what Chatham-Kent has to offer!

Personally we have never stayed at the Retro suite but it is on my bucket list. If you want a weekend getaway what a better place then this wonderful hotel. Manager, George East, says when guests arrive knowing very little about the Hotel or Chatham-Kent in general, they blow them away with the hotel amenities and what Chatham-Kent has to offer. I am always saying that Chatham-Kent is the Ideal Location to live, retire to or visit. The Retro Suites is just another example of this!
