I got into this to be able to enjoy what I do for a living. Helping people buy and sell properties is a great feeling. The evolving why is that no one thought I would be successful at this. I love proving them wrong.

GIRL power. But really, this is awesome!
Why because I've always loved real estate and everthing about it - especially the people!
YOU certainly are the most lovely people-person there ever was and is!
good questions to ask for all of us to ask daily no matter what our business is

Yes! And really in our personal lives too - if we do not breathe to evaluate the why behind the what - we get caught in a rut!
Why? This career has given me the ability to assist families in all aspects of Real Estate. I love what I do, I love the friendships I have made, and I love contributing to my community.
Beautiful - I especially love that you are connected with the aspect of friendship in serving your community. The world spins round much lighter when we serve our hearts.
P.S. IS That part of your Brand? It should be! :)
FREEDOM is generally the first word that comes to mind when I think about why. I enjoy the fact that I make the rules about how hard I work, or don't work and how much money I make or not.

YES! I was hoping someone would jump in with FREEDOM. Being Free, Free Will, Free Choice, Free to Decide, is one of the most beautiful gifts of life. FLYYYY Like an Eagle good folks!
I just love showing homes.. always meeting new people. I have always been a people watcher and this refines my skills.
Just something great about sealing a deal.

OOO, people watching skills, cool, I haven't seen this one yet. Yes, yes, using our intuition in business is an art many have attempted, some have mastered. I bet working with you as a buyer's agent is a breeze ... you're "watching skills" take you to the perfect spots?
My big why began with my family but as my kids get older (last one graduates college in May), I'm finding there's another big why on the horizon. Still waiting for God to reveal what that is.

This has been GREAT FUN! I so hope that you are smiling at the conversations we are co-creating here! THANK YOU for the BIG Smile from feeling your joys.

Definitely a good question to ask as we face each morning. I guess that is why affirmations work too
So true - stating your intentions via asking and answering questions or affirmations is a very powerful thing indeed!
I wanted a second career where I met and helped people with a real need. I wanted to be able to have an upper salary that was only constrained by my own actions. I wanted to get out of anything remotely corporate-like. I wanted to be in control of my own business. I wanted to have some fun.

AWESOME - and how do you feel now? Do you feel like all of those wants are a reality? :)
Selling furniture is fun for me and not like work at all.....I love helping people make their selections and it's so much more fun spending money when it isn't your own.....and you get to make some in the process. Great post!

Ha ha! I love the thought about spending money when it isn't yours. Hey, I am with you - anything relating to decorating (or other creative arts) is just plain fun. And if you aren't having fun, you aren't living!
My sentiments exactly!
I think it is about relationships and feeling each day that you help people. The money is great...but you can make money in any job. I have clients who bought or sold homes with me and live 1000s of miles away still call me for advice or to say hello. I love that.
Hi Jeff! That must be such a great feeling - knowing that your relationships are professional and personal and strong enough for folks to call you for advice, WOW!
Reinventing how you do your career makes real estate list, twist, sell (repeat) never boring and like a passionate sport. Real estate is a jealous master but your reward allow the cruises, the travel, investment property collection, the top notch kid's colleges and the picking up the tab. Plenty of satisfaction of matchmaking buyers and sellers who need our help that appreciate it makes it so worthwhile.
I love your idea of being able to reinvent yourself over and over in this career. The mark of a good agent is that they are in fact always changing, always growing, always learning.
I was a new mom and real estate afforded me the ability to somewhat control my schedule so I didn't have to put my daughter in day care and I would always be able to drop her off and pick her up from school. Eighteen years later I have so many more reasons why I stuck with it. I don't think I viewed real estate as a life-long career back in 1998 when I got licensed but now I can't think of anything else I'd rather do.
That's too fun! I have heard lots of folks really beaming about the fact that they can have the flexibility to be with their kiddos - what a blessing.
Erin, my biggest deepest why is between me and my creator. The bottom line is tied to "purpose" and truly making a difference in the World and the lives of all those I touch in life and serve in business.
Beautiful - I haven't posted my blog about my Big Why yet, but this is mine too. When we find our purpose here on this planet, in this life, and we find a way to add to the pie of that purpose within our careers, we are really doing the Source proud. Thank you for stopping by!
Hi Erin -- I can have an impact on my own life as well as others.
"Why?" is one of the questions I ask myself each day along with How, When, Where and What. The power of a positive attitude may not bring the desired results each day but it sure beats being negative.
If I can bring about one positive result each day --- it's a good day. Fortunately, I seem to find more positive moments than the negative.
Congrats on the gold star.
YES Michael! THIS is why I love "knowing" you so much! It is so true that if we deliberately focus on the positives in life, of course we will enjoy our lives more, but even more rewarding is that we will attract MORE positives. I also love what you said about "one positive result each day". In this crazy, busy, world the true beauty is in this moment, one moment at a time, one day at a time. Was today a good day? YES!
It is good to take time to ask ourselves these very questions. Sometimes we lose sight of what really motivates us. All I can say is "Surfs Up Dude". Wax up my board, I'm heading out.
BEACH CITY HERE WE COME!!!!!
The big why for me is my family. Real estate has been good to me, allowed me to stretch and grow. There's no doubt that homeownership creates wealth and I love being a part of that in others' lives, assist those in home buying and home selling.

Family is one of the most beautiful whys! I also love your "strech and growth" comment, it makes sense to surround ourselves in experiences that allow us to stretch and grow into who and what we really are.
THANK YOU!
My big "Why" was to work with Roger, to be able to help him, and to become 'Team Angeloni' Erin Bates. I was reinventing myself for the 3rd time, as this was my third career. It's always fun (for me) to start off on a New Adventure in Life!
AWESOME! And how fun to hear that you have reinvented yourself thrice times around! "It's not to late to change the road you're on" (ever)!
Keeping more of the money I earned was my primary reason why I started my own businesses, however, being able to have the freedom to select my hours of service and who I chose as clients are why I enjoy my businesses.
Great whys here!
My why was because I was bored and this seemed interesting. Now my why is that I'm hooked. I love it.
Too funny - Real Estate will reel you in that way for sure!
My why was different when I got into real estate - at that point, I just thought it would be fun. And.. there were no actual jobs in our small town that I wanted to do.
And now, I write because I love to write. I also love being able to stay home to work (no ice-glazed roads for me any more!). And... I'm meeting so many people and learning about so many parts of the country - there's something new and interesting every day.

Marte! I love it. If you do something you love then you never work a day in your life. :)
My why has really evolved over the years, and I may indeed be a little out of touch with it at the moment.
Hi Patricia! I think we all have those times, but what a perfect opportunity to get back in touch with it. I know that I need to take some time of solitude to re-touch my why.
I prayed for a Husband who I could be his Help Mate ... that may seem like a strange goal to some, but it was what I felt was the plan for my life. I had many skills and felt they could be put to use in more ways than just the business I had at the time. Well, it happened. But it was far above and beyond what I expected got my WHY and I am thankful today for my husband and how the Lord answered my prayer.
So beautiful! Our prayers are answered in ways we never could imagine.
My why was it was a way to help people and for me at the time I would have minimum travel and be able to sleep home every night
Hi Ed! I bet sleeping at home every night is something a lot of us take for granted. This is a different why than I have seen so far - love seeing lot's of new perspectives.
Hey, Erin! I included this post in today's Last Week's Favorites. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi Patricia! WHY THANK YOU!! I so appreciate your kindness and just love the fact that every time I log into AR this week/end I have been able to see some wonderful "WHYS"!
Well done. We have to be prepared to ask ourselves "Why" and also be prepared for the answer.

So true - if we know the why then we also know the why-not and when the why-not comes up we have choose to move forward with it or steer back to the why!

Hi Evelyn, I LOVE this. And I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see a post by you describing what your idea of the American Dream is, how it has changed, where you think it will go, and how you will support that.
I ask my self these questions before my clients feel obligated Erin Bates
Erin Bates

I have always asked myself that too. Thinking that I had to find something very complicated and worthy. A few weeks ago at the end of the Buffini #SuccessTour Brian Buffini drove it home for me. He showed a slideshow of his children and their hobbies end of his parents and how he has made their life better. I was silently weeping. But I knew then what my why was. Why I do things I don't like to do such as call 10 people per day, right five note cards per day, hold open houses on the weekend, etc. It's because I help my family have a better life. That's my why.

I am so "proud" to hear that you have been reminded of your why in such a beautiful and profound way. I cannot wait to hear about the expansion of your business and your spirit that is arriving as a result of this boost!
Erin Bates it's been said that if you have a STRONG WHY....you can bear almost any how!
A strong why is the reason for anyone's success!

Praful Thakkar - THANK YOU so much for stopping by. Your message, simple and to the point, really means so much to me at this moment. It honestly reminds me that I need to sit down and revisit my WHY!
Helping, caring and sharing is my personality makeup Erin Bates and I love doing mortgages because I can exercise all those traits in my contacts with clients. I've always been a "people person" so the interaction is great. Most of all, I get a warm and fuzzy feelin' when people trust me with the largest financial decision of their lives and see it come to fruition. Every day is the same but oh so different and I love it.

Deanna! YOU are the FIRST person (I believe) to mention TRUST here on my blog. Trust is huge and something that in our industry we should focus on even more. Not that many people are NOT trustworthy, but many people forget that this is a cornerstone of being a good person. Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you for the compliment Erin. My clients being able to TRUST me has been a major reason why I'm still here 30 years later.
Hello Erin and I almost missed this great post on ... "WHY" we do the things we do!
Vegas Bob has several businesses and many hobbies under his belt. Many people say to me "Why do you have so many things going on in your Life"?
And I just tell them that as a Gemini I need at least 4-5 different trades around me at all times or I become bored. One may ask, then how can you perfect a business if you run and control so many, well I don't plan to be perfect at any one thing.
I just like to keep very busy, keep rolling and moving because a "Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss" ![]()
I enjoy installing glass in tall buildings as a Glazier with 40 years experience, buying and selling real estate for investment, selling real estate, traveling around the world taking photographs & videos of where I have been ...
Here is a photograph I took in Bagan Myanmar with 2 family members. This Temple is approx 2000 years old and if you look real close into the darkness of the door of this temple there is a Buddha Statue.

As a person that has studied the many different religions from around the world, I find the Native Americans and Buddhists beliefs as one that I can relate to more then others.
After speaking with your mother last week, I would suggest a 2 week trip in South East Asia to be set in your bucket list. I have been to Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore 4 different times in the last 8 years. I just renewed my passport and will be going again hopefully in 2017.
My number one enjoyment in life is telling the Truth and traveling around the World showing people the beauty in photos & videos of places they could only dream of going.
I hope my comment has explained "Why" I do the things I do" ...

Hello Belinda and yes it was very amazing and I hope you have the change to visit South East Asia in the near future.
Thanks for this inspiring post! I was a teacher before diving into real estate, so helping and educating comes naturally for me. I started this new journey to achieve financial independence! I love that every day offers up new possibilities!
