Conventional wisdom tells us, "Bloom where you're planted...no matter where you go - there you are". And in many cases, those two adages ring true. But not always.
I have come to realize, both as a Real Estate Professional - and as a consumer, concerning my own whereabouts, that there do, in fact, exist better, and worse places to live - For You. There is true magic in finding one's own tribe - a place where the "group-think" is more in line with your own sensibilities. And I have found that when one is actually ready to settle down...when we are ready to stop slaying the windmills around us like some deranged Don Quixote, that is when we will find that elusive place where we truly belong - assuming that the place we were planted isn't, in fact, the most perfect place we could possibly be.
My fiancee and I moved back to the place where he left decades earlier - a place where, as progressive as it is, in many very quaint ways, it is no different than it was fifty years ago. This is a place where neighbors know your business - but they also tend to find a way to make that shared intimacy something that binds us together, rather than tearing us apart. This is a place of inescapable togetherness, where we have learned to be kind to one another for the most part. I am experiencing, for the first time in my life, what I feel to be my ideal community - a place where I feel welcomed, valued, and cherished.
Describing our new digs, as lovely as we make our little-big town seem, many of our friends that we left behind in the big city environment of Los Angeles all but cringe. "EEEWW" - they'll say -" but aren't there a lot of mosquitoes and humidity there?" Yes - blessed pests that they are - they tend to chase away the crowds! I've learned to love those darn mosquitoes .... almost.
I remind myself of this lesson when I approach real estate buyers and sellers - thinking about their motivation for trading locations - there is a right place, and a wrong place for everybody. For some, everyplace is the wrong place - and those folks - well, we can't help them find their bliss, because they haven't found it inside of themselves yet. But for those who are ready, and yearning to find that perfect space that works just exactly in the way that is perfect for them - I'm here to tell you - it exists, and it's worth striving for. I'm grateful to be in this profession, getting to take part in making that happen for my clients. After all of these years - I'm certain, that's why I'm still here.
